3 Arena - Where Have The Bus Stops Gone ?

The 4 bus stops, Dublin Bus, 747, Aircoach and Swords Express stops that used to be outside the 3 Arena on East Wall Road have been removed and where they were has been neatly cemented in.

The Bus Stop markings are still in place on the road.

Anyone know what's going on ?

Do these buses no longer stop here ?

The Dublin Bus stop has been moved around the corner on the quay, on the approach to the roundabout.

Disimproving the connection between Luas and the 747. Yeah, that's integrated transport, Dublin-style

Personally I think it is daft to have these bus stops where they were, as it is a single lane heading into the tunnel and a continuous white line which means you cannot (Legally Anyway) pass a bus, or as is often the case, several buses taking on passengers and baggage, which can take some time, this in turn at peak times can lead to long tailbacks to the roundabout and down the north Quays, and also over the East Link and back down Sean Moore Rd.

To move these bus stops a short distance up to the Yahoo building, where it becomes two lanes towards the tunnel would seem like the right thing to do, but to simply remove them, with no information available either on site or the various company’s websites seems daft.

I have witnessed many wandering up and down that stretch some obviously visitors to our country with suitcases, unsure where to wait or how to get to the Airport.

Or moving the bus-stops away from where they were causing a blockage to traffic flow on a key route, to somewhere with a proper space for buses to pull into, and where the distance to the Luas is at most approx 100m longer to walk (or of course, anyone that concerned about the extra walk could change at Busaras, where the distance from bus to Luas is shorter than it ever was at the Point).

    Cake, anyone?

There could be two reasons for moving the bus stops:

The so-called Point roundabout replacement scheme which is mainly a road widening scheme (widening Eastwall Road) OR the new building planned at the corner of Eastwall Rd and the quays. The former has planning permission via Part 8 but I'm not sure about the latter.

I'm assuming you actually have a point?

This happens everywhere, no matter where you put the bus stops.

Surely there is enough space where the bus stops were actually located to build a loading bay for the bus stops?

I'm assuming that you are blasé about making a useful transport interchange inconvenient. Hence the cake comment. As in "let them eat cake".

I'd say the people who complain about a 100m walk becoming maybe 150-200m are the ones more likely to have cake issues :pac:

Anyone who thinks good city planning includes placing a "useful transport exchange" in a position where buses have no place to pull in clearly seems more concerned about inconveniencing motorists than actual integrated planning.

The most sensible option there would be for a proper bus stop at the rear corner of the point, where buses can actually pull in. If that isn't possible, then putting the bus stop somewhere as close as possible but where it doesn't cause major traffic disruption is the next best option.

Reason = health and safety is what Swords Express told their customers.

Are these the stops in question? There is plenty of space to move the footpath in and install some dedicated pull-in stops.

    That's them.

Crazy that they've never made proper provision for bus stops there, especially with the volume of coach traffic it gets for concerts at evening rush hour.
Often wondered if there's some issues with land ownership there - there's currently planning in to build another block in the space between the 3 Arena and the road.

I suspect that's exactly the issue.

If memory serves me correctly, Mayor St upper only ever extended to approx where the Luas terminus is now; and the open area between the 3 Arena and the Point Village complex used all be part of one large rail yard.

There's a pretty large notice on the lamp-post where the stops used to be, advising that they have moved just around the corner....

Sorry to dig up an old thread but where exactly is the current Aircoach stop at the 3 Arena? Is it at the Dublin Bus stop on the North wall as well? (to the airport that is)

It states on the Aircoach website it is indeed the Dublin Bus Stop at North Wall Quay.
