Oh. Okay. Cool. As succinctly as I can put it:

My YT account is / was 'X'. Google, virtually by default got me to open an account with them. 'Y'.

Now, I tried to get to my YT account and it insists I sign in as 'Y'. But, that handle has nothing to do with my YT 'persona' and I prefer to keep sh1t separate.

Anyone unravel what's going on here, please?

So if you click the icon at the top right and go "Add account", does it let you in with X?

Pretty sure Google and Youtube are unified accounts at this point, but that shouldn't stop you using X account.

Go to 'My Account' and click 'Privacy and Personal Info' then click the little arrow to the right of that... scroll down to 'Add Alternate Email'.

Or just click here if you're to lazy to do all that.

Then after you add whatever email you want, go back and delete your Gmail email. Voilà!

So f**king Orwellian! And there's a big box. My google name and email. Even my avatar.


Below that? It says " Sign in with a different account ".



Click that? It says:

" Choose an account ".

Showing me a box, with my google stuff in again. Beneath it are buttons to " Add Account " or " Remove ".


Nope. Okay. Sorry. I've just gone through every one of their f**king hoops they presented me with. Nothing.


They appear insistent that I am a google entity and shall sign in as such. But, my YT account has been around for years. There's never been any correlation between it and my google ID.


Crazy thing is; Only last week, I was happily watching YT and adding sh1t to my " Watch Later " list. It was trying to add something tonight that brought me face to face with google.




WTF am I missing that the rest of the world seems to have breezed seamlessly through?

Pete; That just sends me round google and the 'Dog In The Box' image which denotes my google / gmail account.

Oops, I've misunderstood what you wanted to do so. Thought you wanted to stop using Gmail as a sign-in on YouTube. No?

You want to keep your current YouTube account, right? You have videos on it and stuff you don't want to lose etc?

Just tried that, Wiz. Probably tried it already, tonight. See above.

I tried offering it a Third email. (I have their gmail one, obviously. My life long Yahoo one. And a dead letter drop at Mail.com) They ask me for a first and last name (my YT account was all one word) then, when I can't do that? Dog in the Box again. Google.

What happens when you go to that Alternate Email address link?

Here's the 'My Account' link:

Here's 'Privacy and Personal Info':

https://myaccount.google.com/privacy

There you should see your name and a list of any email addresses attached to your Google account.

If not click here:

https://myaccount.google.com/email

Then scroll to 'Advanced'.

All you need to do then is add a non-gmail address and when you have done that you should be able to delete the gmail ones.

OP whats the first letter of your old username, that should be displayed on your Youtube page small red circle with the letter in white or a small circle with a profile pic in it on the top right of the page, click on that and you should get a drop down that displays your both accounts, your username one should also display with the first letter. CLICK! that and voila you should be back in your own account.

Hoo F**king Ray!!! I'm back in!

God; It's took me half the f**king morning, and god knows how much clicking, signing Back in and frigging about. But, I finally got there.

F**king astounded when, at one point, google slyly asked me if I'd like to give them the phone number of my " device " ~ which it named, by brand and model!!! WTF?!

They're Listening ....!
