Looking at options for a new parlour. It would suit me to stick it in the back of an existing shed but that would mean the parlour would be a bit away. Is this an issue?

Seen milk piped under ground to a tank in a couple of places. 100 metres in one spot. They put a valve on the tank to allow pipe be washed after milking. Wouldnt be a big issue if you talk to companies about it.

Thanks. I've just never seen it. In reality its just some extra piping.

Does there need to be a return line as well for the wash back to the parlour? Or is the wash out with the tank?

In this case vt needs the whole dairy to be away from the parlour not just the tank or am I understanding it wrong?

There'll have to be a loop either way. Wash trough can be at the bulk tank end of the loop or he can connect a return from the at the bulk tank end of the milk line and have the wash trough near the parlour.

Seen it done with a robot set up. Outdoor Tank is 100 metres away from robot . I presume there's a return line aswell and the machine washs right up to the tank.

Lad beside me has tank in a stand alone shed around twenty metres from parlour. Uses air to force the last of the milk into tank. He has an auto washer and just walks away then. Supplier would confirm method of cleaning.

Shouldn't be an issue, extra piping to and from (wash line) tank and more water needed for wash. Be sure to insulate the sh1te out of the out and in pipes to keep out Mr Frosty

Thanks lads for replies. I'm thinking of getting in someone like grasstec and design a layout. A few bob spent on a good layout now might be the best few bob spent!

Dairy is 15 meters from parlour here. Milk is pumped overhead across a small yard to dairy and no problem

If your already in teagasc. A dairy advisor shouldn't cost you anything to come have a look at your yard.
