I'm flying with Etihad for the first time next weekend. Will be interesting to compare as I've always flown Emirates before.

Ive yet to have the pleasure of one of those elegant airlines of the middle east. Turkish i imagine is a long way off. Im more used to Aeroflot and KLM. Pizza and a can of Heineken to Moscow as a last taste of freedom for 6 weeks :D

Boarding from pier 3 (the old B pier hub)
The lounge remains the same and is the same distance from the previous boarding gate.
T1 is half way through a major facelift so should be a nice experience once finished.

The on-board service is broadly comparable. The only difference I've noticed is a prayer for a safe flight prior to take off on EY. Fun anecdote; I asked a member of crew for a translation of it last time and he didn't actually know, recommending that I email customer service to find out :)

It's worth noting however that AUH is a bit chaotic when compared to DXB, especially if you land in T1 (with the mosaics on the ceiling).

Good comparison of Emirates and Etihad above. I echo the Dubai versus Abu Dhabi comments.

Wasn't US CBP below the 300 gates previously?

Not sure what's down there these days, probably storage. EI used to have their crew rooms down there too. I'm sure there's some planing to re-develop the whole of Pier B as well someone may clarify that for us.

    Anything there now?

Passport Control, Transit Lounge for Ethiopian and some office space (Immigration and DAA)

Thanks for that. I'll have to be on my game as I only have 1:45hr layover to Hyderabad.

Last time I connected there I waited 45 mins for security. That was several years ago mind; perhaps it's better now.

Will be interesting to see if they actually stay at 2 daily for after September 2017 and more so into 2018. Could just be 10 year PR stunt but planning to return to full A332 ops makes sense. The B777 had little commercial taught but just keeping up wtih EK.

Flown with both but Etihad wins for me had the pleasure of first A380 AUH to Sydney wow, the Emirates shower is a nicer experience but the first seat is no match for the apartment.

I have recently moved to Emirates from Etihad. they both have 777 or A330 both similar products. I have found Emirates cheaper and my OH prefers them.

The only downside with Emirates from Dublin is no lounge, the Etihad one in Dublin is fantastic. Plus the flat bed in bus. emirates has a angle

Flew Etihad out of Dublin they have a flat bed and on demand dining.

Sorry I could have worded that better the only things I find better with Etihad were, better lounge and flat bed. Emirates have not lounge and an angle flat bed.

I lost quite a bit of luggage, never to be found with Etihad, that plus the mess Abu Dhabi airport are in tipped the scales for me.

i do a lot of travel to far east asia and i flew with both last year to test them out.

its 16-4 at the moment in terms of flights on emirates v etihad and i will not be flying eith etihad ever again, just something about them i dont like. Emirates is top class in my opinion.

on a seperate note, any reason why the need to move from T2 to T1?

T1 always seems busier than T2 anytime i go there, so im not sure why they need to move!

T2 is at capacity at morning peak. T1 is not.

Capacity in terms of stands I presume?

I wouldn't be surprised if an untangling of the EI codeshares will occur in the future happens, not that they are no longer a shareholder. This would also lessen the need for them to be located in T2.

Yes, and checkin although the move to self drops will help in time. There is still empty space in the departures hall for significant expansion - the shelf above the units opposite the existing food court.
