    Hi,

Looking to trade in my 2006 1.6 petrol Ford Focus.

Excluding the value of my car as a trade in, I've about €5k to spend.

I'm looking for a hatchback that's in or around 200bhp. Have I missed anything below?

    Ford Focus ST
    Mk5 Golf GTI
    Mini Cooper S JCW (R53)
    Astra OPC/VXR

I'm not too bothered about motor tax, but insurance could be an issue. They said the Golf GTI is fine, but a EP3 Type R Civic just isn't happening.

Between JCW and Focus st there is more than grand of tax difference...

Focus will be hard to insure as well, it is above 2.5l...

    €780 no? €514 vs €1294?

The Focus ST is tricky enough to insure, yeah. But as long as it's less than twice my current premium I'll pay it.

Corolla t-sport could be another to consider, very reliable and cheap to buy as well, many only make around 180bhp on irish fuel though.

There was a very rare 225bhp supercharged Corolla T Sport too like this one:

Definitely at the top of the budget. The €4000 ones without the supercharger are more appealing haha

Have you asked about a FN2 Civic Type R? They are easier to insure than the EP3s

Not sure if there are many of the following around and I can't see any on donedeal right now, but the following would probably be in the right price range if you could find one:

BMW 1 Series (125i and up)
    Mazda 3 MPS
    Volvo C30 T5

    All good suggestions again!

I'm actually going to view a Cooper S tomorrow. He's interested in taking my Focus as a trade in so I might be able to satisfy the craving cheaply enough after all! Insurance is €30 extra a month, which isn't too bad.

Funnily enough a 2007 BMW 520d brings my insurance down from where it already is!

Bought the Cooper S! Swapped my 06 Focus and a few euro, but I'm very happy with it! Supercharger sounds unreal! :D
