    Hey,
Just wondering can you test positive for coeliac disease and not actually have it?
I know it sounds like a silly question, but my results came back positive, but doc wants to redo the blood test, I think because the results were high but not by much.
    Any information would be great

We can't talk about your specific situation or give you advice but there can be false positive and false negatives with any test depending on many factors.

The blood test for coeliac disease is an antibody test. If it tests positive then the patient is very likely to have the condition.

However, it has a higher risk of false negatives, i.e. people test negative but they actually have the condition.

If they are borderline/equivocal then the test may be repeated.

The gold standard for diagnosing coeliac disease is an OGD (camera test) and biopsy. Your GP will be able to go through it with you. Hope that helps.

One of my teenagers is a coeliac. His blood test was extremely high and our GP sent us to a Gastroenterologist. He was 99.9% sure that he had it after seeing his blood results and talking about his symptoms but to be 100% sure he needed a biopsy, this was a very easy procedure and due to my childs age at the time it was done under a general anaesthetic and the results came back positive
