Hi all I have been looking and looking and can't find any resources. I can find lots of what it is they do and don't do, but What I'm after is the creation date of the following:

    1. HSE - When was it first created

    2. Private Healthcare - same question, but i only remember hearing about PH about 10 years ago and not before.

I'm relating the dates to disability and not asking for help just dates if you know them or websites i can visit. HSE surprisingly don't have anything

I seem to like getting stressed im doing social care lv8/9 lol But as i mentioned before it's easy to read up on stuff but i am finding that googling stuff isn't what it used to be, the internet really is convoluted with so much crap. It's good to have a fresh pair of eyes on the case. Other then that don't mind doing all the work lol

Social care student myself. It's always better to do your own research, at least that way you know where you got the info.

Health insurance was available in Ireland from late 50s, hse is relatively new here, replaced the health boards

Healthcare everywhere in the world was private long before it was government regulated or government provided.

Update: you got me thinking and googling, because I didn't know much about the specific Irish history. Very readable account here: https://nuighealthpsychology.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/a-brief-history-of-healthcare-in-ireland/

It glosses over some stuff (eg just how bad some psychiatric hospitals were, and for how long), but makes the big points - especially that health wasn't even a priority for the Irish government until the 1940s. One thing which maybe needs more emphasis is that doctors tend to be opposed to government run or funded health systems. They would say they're scared that government rules will stop them doing what's in the patient's best interest ... a more cynically minded person may say that it's so much easier to practise if you don't have to deal with poor people.

They have these things called books, you can find them in places called libraries. Most colleges even have one.
