What are you using it for? I'd say the case if it's for yard work.

I was looking at similar second hand tractors while ago. Advice I got was to avoid the case 4240 but that the 856 (I think that was number) were great machine with slightly funny gear shuttle but a good tractor for the job like yours. Saw few on done deal for 6 to 9K but they sold v fast. I bought MF390 in end - more expensive (some say too expensive) but I've no knowledge of machinery and used to MF at home.

anyone else any views, I see a Case 956 on done deal for 7k

Would I be better off buying this than a 4240

4240 is a turbo 4 cylinder model built in England. No experience of them but havn't got a great reputation apparently. Decent cab and being 4 cyl more maneuverable.

956 is a 6 cylinder built in Germany - meant to be bullet proof if not abused. Available with the XL cab, but prob not as easy to drive.

    956 is probably older also

If twas me i'd be going with 956xl. Future classic.

My understanding is the Renault is a nice lil tractor, but a bit of a lucky dip, they can be troublesome - not common, so parts could be pricey / scarce secondhand.Could you contavt previous owners?
