Jobs where you are not an employee of the state.

Literally anything where you're not employed by the state or a semi-state.

What an odd question. Why do you ask? Is it for a project or something?

https://www.publicjobs.ie/publicjobs/ will give you an idea of the sort of jobs that are public sector jobs.

I assume the OP hasn't worked so has no experience of the private or public sector.

The private sector covers jobs where the money earned by the person/company may go to create a profit for the owner of the business e.g. a shop sells groceries and profit goes to the owner once the costs are paid.

The public sector covers workers in places like public hospitals, county or city councils, free schools.

The jobs may be the same, e.g. electrician in a hospital vs electrician in a factory, but if the workplace is owned/ run by a private owner or by the state determines whether it is called public or private.

If you look more carefully at a job on the website you'll see that they're quite formally worded and tell you what department /authority the job pertains to. I was a public servant at one stage and you'd have to have been Stevie Wonder not to have noticed. The amount of forms with harps on the top of them I had to sign, for starters. Not to mention the circulars I was handed. The whole process of applying for the job was quite formal too. You'd know what grade you are and that sort of thing.
