Does anybody know if laudanum was widely used among working class people in Ireland when it was legal?

Possibly in the 19th century with the whole opium thing.

Wasn't it used with Absinthe back in the day?

I sometimes have a dash of lime in my pint of budweiser.

Opium dens would provide a welcome alternative to the pub and club scene

I've never indulged, I don't think it's a very sociable substance though. Would probably cut down on public disorder, until the users ran out of money that is.

Scottish teenage Werewovles are very partial to the stuff, or so I hear.

If it calms them down and stops them from going through my bins it's fine with me

It was part of common cough remedies in the 19th century but working class Irish wouldn't have had ready access to it back then. It was more a drug of the upper classes, both as a prescribed medicine and un-prescribed.
