I believe agriculture is in a precarious situation at the moment with Brexit, Commodities oversupply. What would ye like to see the minister implement?

A lot of small farmers were excluded from Farm Assist by tougher assessments, I think this needs to be rolled back to give some supports back.

Deferred income scheme - defer income in high periods account for in low periods

Revise of leases - considering the tax free monies received leased land price has nearly doubled nationally since introduction of scheme, ceiling on rental price before taxation, potentially land prices could spiral out of control land was offed to us for 300 an acre and they wanted single farm payment to be claimed by me and paid to them for a low margin business it seems out of sorts

Reduction in taxation in green diesel, operating in commodity markets both our income and costs should fluctuate with markets, we receive commodity price for milk but dont get to pay commodity price on inputs like diesel, fert etc

Legislate for ban on below cost selling of all produce produced here and a larger share of retail price, more transparent details on prices and how they are achieved. Agriculture has a huge amount of accidents and deaths each year, quite a lot due working very long hours for a wage that wouldnt be accepted in any other industry and the stress that goes with it, as years go on we end up working longer for less money, we are powerless agianst processors and retails

Set up farmer pension fund scheme, how many farmers have a pension or even think about retiring, allow as an expense item prior to taxation

Greater access to all research by teagasc and other ag related bodies and colleges, instead of having to buy them, improve innovation and learning for younger farmers, i got more data when i started out from other countries than here, let anyone outside the country pay if its a money issue

Reduce vat on machinery, contracting, vets, could go to 9% like hospitality sector would boost sector

Increase flat rate vat to 6% (ive no justification for that bar the processors can pay)

    No change whatsoever.
The weak Gov are all vying to buy the next election...
    No wage increases/tax reductions.

The next downturn could be messy with Brexit on the way.

    "Keep the recovery going"...
Did I read somewhere that we are paying nearly €9bil on interest every year?

I doubt it. Afaik most id not all high interest rate bonds have been rolled over into much lower priced ones. I could be completely wrong. The 9billion was probably correct at one point not too long ago.

The Ballyhea gang wouldn't be long putting a figure on it.

All I want is for house prices to keep inflating...purely for my personal greed of course!

There are rumours that something will be started on this in the budget but it will be small, apparently. Personally, I would like to see the self employed tax allowance brought up to the full rate this year rather than to 2/3 this year and full rate next year. It would have an immediate impact and level the playing field as self employed already pay tax on current year earnings.

I would also like the CGT brought down to 25% or less but I imagine it will be a reduction to 28 or 29% at most.

I would also like a temporary increase in stock relief for farms locked up with TB, which would be rowed back in the next two years to previous stocking rate levels, which would be a massive help to weanling producers who would be forced to sell to feedlots or finish themselves. There can be a massive paper profit from having extra cattle around that would normally be sold earlier in their lifetimes.
