The subsidy is 'not high enough' - for what?

To pay higher wages? To upgrade/expand the fleet? To improve service levels?

As the relevant minister, he needs to know what's going to happen to any extra money he gives to CIE before the cash is handed over. Simply giving DB money so that a wage spiral can be maintained is not good value for the taxpayer.

With respect the money is not "given" to CIE.

The money is advanced to the NTA who decide what it is spent on.

It is abundantly obvious that the subsidy is not at a satisfactory level for both bus and rail - the companies are unable to significantly expand services as they are needed.

He should of kept his mouth shut for a few months. Yes it's not great however neither company should receive any additional funds until current issues are dealt with.

He specifically mentions consumption of cash, I suppose he, like many others, aren't taking into account the paid for buses as subsidy too?
