HUGE Sudden Drop in Battery (12 hour to 5 minute life in the space of a day)

As the title says, my dads phone has had a huge drop in its battery life. It's a Motorola Razr i XT 890 and he's had it a few years now. He typically gets about 12-18 hours between charges as he doesn't use it so much, but now all of a sudden within the space of a day, the battery life is only 5 minutes.

Can batteries die this suddenly? He's restarted it a few times (well, it's died on him a few times) but I'm not sure what else he could do. It sounds very strange.

Any suggestions on a possible solution would be great as otherwise he may have to wait for a delivery of a replacement battery and then deal with replacing it etc too.

    :)

Its rare that the battery would fail that suddenly. Check that its not bloated/expanding. If it is, dont risk using it as it could rupture violently.

My money is he's got a rogue app burning through power. Its on an older OS but should have the battery/power features to see whats eating juice in settings.

If he has facebook installed thats a prime suspect, Chat heads are a right nightmare for power consumption.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Unfortunately I don't think it's very easy to access or even view the battery on the phone so he wouldn't be able to inspect it the way you could with a phone where you can just take off the back cover and slip the battery out :(

I've sent him what you said anyway so I'll see what he comes back with.
