Hi, I really need some advise please. My 19 year old nephew was kicked out of his house by his mother and stepdad. Having know where to go that night, he slept in his car which is not tax, insured or NCT and he has a provisional licence. The police caught him with the engine on (which was only on to keep the car warm). Now he has until the end of the week to bring insurance details to the Guards, but is mum is refusing to help him financially with that. He is now facing a find of 5,000Euro, up to 6 months in prison and penalties on his licence. He is currently working but only with a casual contract.

No point taking out insurance now im afraid as the company will not back date the policy to when he got the producer
Was the car parket on private property ?
Did he drive it to where it was ?
Iv seen lots of lads get away with no insurance for the first offence
But some judges like to make an example
He wont get fined 5000 euro or get 6 months in jail im certain of that your panicing..Its not really that big of deal aslong as he didnt hurt anyone or has a bad record
My mate got away in donegal lately with it ,First offence 250 euro fine two months to pay
But iv seen friends get a 1 year driving ban on first offence aswell
    All depens on judge
You can also appeal it after remember that

Solicitor will be able to answer all your nephews questions.

Sorry cannot get legal advice on this forum.
