New kitchen - advice welcome

    Hi

Just after ordering a new kitchen (contemporary, gloss) for my gaff but am clueless enough when it comes to colours etc.

The units are Mussel coloured (similarish to ivory) with a slate grey quartz worktop. The edging on the doors are glass styled. The kickboard is aluminium in colour. The island is the same style.

From what I've read up on and from what I can see on the likes of pinterest, Stainless Steel appliances are the best to go with for this. Black is too much of a contrast apparently! And to be fair, I think the stainless steel option looks better.

We are getting laminate flooring, probably a wood look version (balterio brand).

But am clueless on the splashback to use for the length of the kitchen.
I like metro tiles. But would they be too old fashioned for this type of kitchen? If not, what colour could you use that would go with the off-white units and grey slate worktop?
Or go with a glass splashback? If that option, what colour?

I'm afraid of making the kitchen look too clinical/industrial/cold if all I have are shades of white/grey/steel throughout

Thanks for any help on any of the above

I would put a glass splash back, and I'd probably use that to inject a bit of colour!

I see your point. What colour would you go for....a light green, oyster white type?
Don't think a bright red or jet black will be a runner

I wouldn't go with metro tiles. I think they would clash. A dark brown splashback would contrast well with the units but might not work with the grey slate so a sludgy grey/green might work better. Get some paint cards from some paint shops to get an idea of what colours might work and place them against the units. Then go for that colour in whatever form of spashback you decide on. There are some very good intelligent matt paints which could work also from Little Greene and Colortrend which are wipeable but you might prefer glass or tile.

Good call on matt paints. Hadn't really thought of that

Has anyone any experiences of the Capel Geotech sinks such as the Leesti 150 below?

    http://www.caple.co.uk/sinks-taps/granite-sinks/eden-individual-and-multiple-bowls/ede7542-w-838mm/

They claim to be scratch/cut proof and completely colourfast!
Looks very nice compared to the standard stainless sink and can sit just on top of the worktop or be inserted under

The care & clean instructions are worth a read:

We are actually going to be getting a mussel coloured kitchen in a couple of weeks (there is some name before the mussel, but I can't remember).

We are going to go for a clear splashback and paint the wall behind it. The idea being that if we get tired of the colour we can just unscrew the splashback and repaint the wall. Glass splashbacks are expensive. Paint isn't :)

Aye, read that earlier. It's a bit contradictory to what I posted above from their brochure.
But the care instructions seem to be much the same as any other sink.

Good idea, very good idea. The spashbacks are indeed expensive but I'm just not feeling the love for them!

I spoke to our kitchen girl again today and asked her advice. She said for the modern kitchen we have gone for, that personally she wouldn't go with the tiles. :(
So will let this stew until the kitchen goes in a few weeks from now and maybe put a few samples up before deciding.

Sorry Jay, wasn't trying to be smart there. Some of the care instructions would leave you with the impression a granite sink may not be the right choice if you had a family who were particularly heavy-handed/clumsy for example.

    Cheers Graham.
I cannot find a single review online of anyone who has isntalled a sink like this but am going to chance it anyways! Will have it done as an insert so the lip of the sink sits on the worktop, rather than sitting under the lip of the worktop i.e. undermounted. Have never liked the look f the undermounted sinks in any kitchen I've seen over the years

I didn't read that as you being smart by the way.
