Kids School Lunches

Sorry if this is not the right place.

Just wondering about what people give their kids for their school lunch. My 3 girls (7, 5 & 2) all pretty much get the same. A ham sandwich and cheese sandwich or wrap. It was only recently when we were in a supermarket that they had a lady dishing out squares of cheddar and they loved it, so I was able to add that in. It was just plain ham before that. Gas, cause I pretty much always had the same thing in the fridge which they never liked. It's amazing how a lady in a shop giving them a sample changed their minds!

Have tried to give them a humus & rocket / leaves mash up, but it went down like a lead balloon. My missus does the shopping online & she only buys them ham. If I do it, I'll get some of the cheap stuff luncheon roll, or chicken (but it's rare I do it). The have eaten anything like that no problem.

Generally, one of them will get a banana, the other will have an orange, or maybe an apple, a few grapes and possibly a yoghurt.

When I was a kid, I was lucky to get a jam sandwich, maybe peanut butter, or a lucky day I would get chocolate spread, but most popular was probably a salad sandwich consisting of a few lettuce leaves, tomato and a bit of cheese. Ham was a rare thing. I probably had a treat nearly every day.

They go on about heathly eating nowadays and of course it is a good thing, but I am not fat and I ate a hell of a load of crap. Thing was I exercised for hours every day. But I still want to do the best for my kids, so anyway, what do you give your kids, and do you shake it up much? How do you get over resistance to changing it up and giving them something different? I'm thinking of trying a tuna and sweetcorn sambo this week.

They love ham but we try and limit it to one or two days because of the health concerns around processed pork.

Alternatives are smoked salmon and cream cheese on brown bread or bagel; tuna, mayo, corn; chicken; turkey. Fruit or nuts or a few cherry tomatoes for snack. School doesn't allow crisps or chocolate.
