Neighbour for 1150 on Sat for 850kg pure bred Holstein bull. In Ross mart. Go from there. At that weight and knowing the man who sold him that bull would have been well fleshed.

The ass has fallen off the price of Bulls at the moment. I saw Young bulls at Ennis mart last week, some of them less than 6 year old limousine bulls weighing 900kgs plus sold for under €1400

Seems a pity to have factoried him and not let him die of old age at that stage.

Sent a bull to factory last Wednesday. Base price of 3:65. He was 15 mths old. Killed out U= 2+. Came into 1368. Not great when you look at what he would have made last year.

He ended up at a price of 3.73/kg. Not sure if this chasing the the base price for u16 months is worth your while. If they have extra cattle they pull it by 5-10c/kg compared to bullocks. He could have stayed on grass until last week, fed 3kg/day for August and September and finished after Christmas. Would the bull U price be at or over 3.8/kg????

The only time you get really good money for U16 month bulls is when cattle are scarce, Dec/Jan late April-June and maybe July/Aug. If he was mine I would have fed him outside until mid/late September and then house for Dec/Jan slaughter.

No point comparing to last year prices
