Was really looking forward to Train to Busan, but I am out of the country on the only day it screens. A few other films there which look good though.

If they can squeeze one more in ... how about some Greasy Strangler? NSFW:

(Or could this be the Surprise Screening?)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Found Footage 3D got good reviews out of FrightFest, I'll go to that one.

I'm always interested in supporting Irish horror but Demon Hunter/Crone Wood don't look good :(

The Chamber (trapped in submarine/a '4 hander') sounds pretty good although there's no trailer available on the internet. (What's that about?!)

Autopsy looks like good fun - read positive reviews of it. PET looks along the strain of Elijah Wood's Maniac. Found Footage 3D looks like great craic!

Anyone heard anything about Director's Cut (w/Penn Jillette) or Beyond the Gate (the VHS board game)?

I've made a playlist for all of the horror trailers I could find on YouTube that are on during Horrorthon! If their trailer isn't on there I tried my best to put an interview or something in it's place.

Sadly I can't get the playlist video to embed correctly here, so click the link :)

I noticed Kim Newman gave Lake Bodom a rave review. I've wanted to see that one for awhile now.

    Loved this movie!!

    Day 1
    Train To Busan
This is everything World War Z should have been. Awesome, intense, fantastic.
    9/10
From A House On Willow Street
It's hard to follow Train To Busan so that probably hurt this film. Slick production value but has too many attempted jump scares and really drags at parts, some of the acting was woeful. Does have some decent Fx at times and has its moments.
    6/10
    31
It's a Rob Zombie movie, if you don't like his first 2, you won't like this. some of the shaky cam action during the fighting was really annoying.
    7/10

Agreed on Train To Busan - saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Good zombies, great music.

Having seen the Rob Zombies 31 and Train to Busan recently my advise would be save your money on 31 and watch Train to Busan twice!!

Enjoyed Train to Busan, although thought there were too many trite and generic moments towards the end in particular. The OTT family melodrama didn't gel with the more blackly comic tone elsewhere, and even by zombie movie standards some of the characters were lazily written (the asshole CEO particularly). The former is a particular shame given Sang-ho's admirably dark, unapologetic approach in his animated work.

That said, it is still a confident and often thrilling film that easily matches or surpasses many of its English-language predecessors. The build-up is particularly well judged - a nicely paced and shot tease before **** hits the fan. And several of the action sequences work really well, especially when they stop at the station midway through the film.

Nothing remarkable overall, but definitely a damn good time. Snowpiercer still the best train-set work from a Korean director ;)

Unfortunately the only thing I'm likely to get around to this year, although have seen Raw already and it was impressive (although a bit uneven in the third act).

Spot on - said pretty much the same to my girlfriend on the way home. Felt like it put the pacing off a fair bit at the end. Still well worth watching!

Train to Busan is on all week in The Lighthouse.

    Day 2
    Attack Of The Lederhoser Zombies
You should know what to expect from the title. Still not quite as fun as I feel it could have been.
    6/10
    White Coffin
Didn't know what to expect with this one but it's pretty good, a tense, well shot low budget movie that has some really twisted things in it.
    7/10
    Raw
This movie wasn't what I was expecting at all really. It's still a decent little movie though.
    8/10
    Lake Bodom
This wasn't what I was expecting at all. Thought it was going to be more of a traditional hack and slash movie but instead got a movie with a decent plot and some really good twists. Really loved this one, it's very well shot, drips with athmosphere.

    Day 3
    My Father Die
Fantastic revenge story, was surprised at how good this one was.
    8/10
    The Chamber
Lots and lots of arguing, ugh.
    5/10
    The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
Fantastic! Gripping story, nasty autopsy, likeable characters, great mood and athmosphere.
    9/10
    Don't Kill It
Ok, who would have thought this **** would actually be good? Maybe the fact that I was dreading it made it so much more entertaining! The crowd really helped also.

    Day 4
    Egomaniac
A cute little movie, ultra low budget but it's written and acted well enough to work.
    7/10
    Johnny Frank Garrets Last Words
An engaging movie that's well shot with great performances but seems to be lacking something. Dragged at parts.
    7/10
Surprise Film - The Devils Candy
Wow,what a surprise this was, fantastic, very well directed, kick ass soundtrack, very likeable characters, got very intense. Adored this one.
    9/10
    Pet
Very good movie, was kind of getting bored until it pulls a fantastic twist at the midway mark that totally changed the game.
    8/10
    Found Footage 3D
Another movie I expected to be rubbish but turned out to be really good. A great jab at 'business decision' horror. It's like the Scream of Found Footage movies and it really needs to be seen in 3D.

    Day 5 :-( last day
    Directors Cut
Hilarious! This is a real auidence movie. Very clever and very well done.
    9/10
    Beyond The Gates
Fun 80s throwback, some decent gore and passes the time quite well.
    7/10
    Let Her Out
I enjoyed this one for the most part, it's a little slow but has great performances, likeable characters and gets very good towards the end.
    8/10
    Patchwork
This might be my new favourite movie, it's a blast, decent story, great characters, hilarious comedy.
    9/10
    Headshot
Intense, brutal, bloody, everything an action movie should be! Some odd plot holes but it's a total blast!

First time being to Horrorthon and didn't really expect much from the movie selection but was surprised by how good a lot of the films where. I didn't see anything I really hated, the only 2 I wasn't really mad about where From A House On Willow Street and The Chamber. Helped that there was a great athmosphere, the auidence really seemed into it.

Caught up with Train to Busan at the Lighthouse. Really enjoyed it, despite not being much of a fan of the recent glut of Zombie films. Some great camerawork (as expected from Korean cinema), impressive sound design, and a nice feeling of weight from the undead hordes, probably because a lot of the time they were real actors, rather than CGI crowds. Not quite up there with The Wailing though, which is probably my favourite Korean film of the last five years.
