Dublin Hatch Street Upper - Traffic Lights

    Hi Folks,

Question for anyone who works or travels via this area normally. If you are proceeding from Charlotte Way onto Hatch Street Upper, there are lights between the Garda HQ side of Harcourt St, the Luas tracks and Hatch Street (Indicated by the arrow)

It often happens that this light is red even if the lights on Charlotte Way are green. Thus meaning you can proceed down Harcourt St but are, in my opinion, blocked from crossing the Luas tracks and onto Hatch St if that light is red.

So, my question, is a driver correct to continue from Charlotte Way onto Harcourt St but stop your right turn onto Hatch if said light is red? My logic being those lights are light to stop you ploughing into a Luas and they are definitely part of that junction however it can be extremely difficult to see. There are, for sure, lights on the other side of the junction e.g Hatch St for a right turn onto Harcourt St.

I say this as someone blown out of it yesterday afternoon as its the first time I've come to that junction and its been red.

To me,the red light you mention looks like a light controlling the exit from Garda Hq,and nothing to do with the Luas.
(So I'd say you were wrong!)
The blue line on your map is the Garda exit.

Once you proceed with caution through the 1st set of lights you must continue those lights you can hardly see are for Garda hq so do not mix them with your lights. Not sure how you could as they aren't even sight of your junction.

You will at times have a green and a luas coming close on tracks but they have light control and must stop also as you have green.

Thanks folks. So the consensus is this light here:

    30085349005_26fc813b4e_z.jpg

Is controlling the exit from Garda HQ? Then why is there an entire set of lights around that junction? I can understand the reason to stop traffic coming from Hatch St onto Harcourt St when Charlotte Way is green, however the reverse doesn't make sense. Noting, that light in the picture above is entirely separate to the lights that allows you move off from Charlotte Way. Seems off that you would enter from an entirely different junction and have right of way on this junction, even if there is a red light staring you in the face and a case for it to mean something e.g. Luas tracks.

I'm entirely open to correction however!

It's always red. The induction loop in Harcourt Sq doesn't work.

Perfectly happy to accept I was wrong, considering the location I'd rather be fairly sure to avoid a chat and a fine :D
