Although not specifically Limerick related this question is quickly answered.

    The answer is: Yes

Your probation can be terminated and extended during this period of time.

If the contract says you have to give each, lets say, 4 weeks notice to leave, that doesn't apply until your out of probation so they can terminate you immediately if they so wish.

    Also note:
An employee does not have the same protection from dismissal during a probationary period as they do when they are made fully permanent. During probationary periods the Unfair Dismissals Act does not apply to the dismissal of the employee provided that there is a written employment contract and the duration of probation is one year or less.

It's worse - regardless of probation an employee has very little rights until a year's service is achieved and can be let go without much come back.

Apparently theres a new large store in Limerick already letting staff go before their probation is up
