Travelling to UK by Stena in the winter ? (Dublin to Manchester)

    Hi I'm wondering what this trip is like in November/December/January? A few friends have told me that ferry crossings can be rough or even prone to cancellation?. I want to go from Dublin to Manchester and won't fly. I'm thinking of Eurolines (Bus). Thanks

    To Liverpool? Doesn't that stena take about 8 hours?

    We've done Holyhead to Dublin several times now around xmas time. I can't say I've noticed it being much more rough than normal. Obviously there is a chance that the weather can be crap at that time of year but thankfully we've never been subject to a cancellation (I've just jinxed this xmas, haven't I?).

    It depends on the ferry. The high speed ferries don't travel in bad weather but the old school ferries generally sail all the time.

    Practically nothing stop the ferry ferries. Its the fast ones that have trouble but Stena sold their one and the Irish Ferries one only needs a sneeze to stop it. Make a booking for the a proper ferry, recommend the Stena ship "Adventurer" or the Irish Ferries Ulysses, (not the IF Johnathon Swift) and you will be fine.

    Just stay away from the Stena Superfast 10, its a pox, unreliable and is a pain in the ass.

    The Premier Inn beside Piccadilly is grand. What's your budget? There's plenty of cheap Ibis, Travelodge on Portland Street.
