Double rad nipple broken.

    A little help please..
I have a double rad. Approx 100x50. with two bleed nipples one of which has head broken off. Rad is not leaking so would like to leave well enough alone.
The bottom half of one panel ( the one with the broken nipple ) barely heats up so I was going to take rad off and flush out. I think the rad is an old round top myson..maybe 20 years old.

Can a double rad be bleed from one nipple?

    Thanks.

Had a similar situation myself. Pointed out by my plumber. His solution - put a screw near the top of the rad. to bleed it. So I guess the answer is no........

The "nipple" that broke off, could you get a small drill bit into it or is it blocked by the other rad.

Is there a surround nut around it so the whole thing can be removed and replaced?

If you can get at it you can drill it with a small 1mm drill bit and replace the "nipple"

You really need to get the broken piece out and put a replacement in, otherwise you'll never get the rad to heat properly as the air is trapped and can't escape.

If it were my rad id just replace it. 20 year old rad is not very efficient, it's full of sludge & the vent is broken. This is the simplest option.
Having said that it is possible to drill the top of the rad & put in a screw. The screw could break your heart. It can take several attempts to get the screw in without it weeping. Each time you need to air the rad you could end up with drips /weeping.
Best option replace the rad but if on tight budget you can drill the rad
