The next boy racer cars?

In my short lifetime so far we had the massive aerials/branded windscreen shades/oversized mudflaps on starlets look of the 90's, then the Lexus lights/wings west kits/PlayStation/TVs in civics thing in the mid 00's and now it's the felt spec/pigeon exhaust/daysul Passat/rs4 tdi/Jetta.

To get to the point , what do you think will be the next boy racer fashion/choice of car? Qashqai's with scissor doors maybe? i40's on airbags and dripping in chrome perhaps?

They're on the way home if enda is proposing a 30% returning emigrant tax.

This whole feltspec nonsense is getting so tiresome. It wasn't even funny to begin with (I mean people using the term feltspec and other similar terms).

    520d.

There's so many of them the price is going drop quickly.

What do you mean? I'm not being smart but is it that you are into this "scene" and find it annoying to be referred to as felt spec or that you hate the whole felt spec look?

The lexus is250 will gradually become a more established wrecker car when they drop more in price.

RWD, manual, enough power to do a fleet a hoops and an engine strong enough to take the abuse.

Mark Levinson sound systems will be an after thought for blasting out bootlegs ;)

I'm wouldn't say I'm into the scene but I'm a big VAG fan and just find the feltspec thing insulting to vw and Audi drivers and on top of that a very cheesy statement too.

what's the problem ? just because these feltspek VAG drivers are enthusiasts and buyers of the make as well ?

I think I'm being taken up completely wrong. The problem I have is with those using term "feltspec" as an insult towards vw/Audi owners and enthusiasts who may or may not like to modify their cars.

I think I'm being taken up completely wrong. The problem I have is with those using term "feltspec" not the people who are VAG enthusiasts or like to modify their cars.

Then take it up with the very knowledgeable VAG enthusiasts that use it enthusiastically and enjoy feltspecin their cars.

There's shag all wrong with the term feltspek.

What's funny about it exactly ? Just because it's a whole car sub culture and movement you might not understand.
It's a salute to the birthplace of the perfection of the spec and their knowledge, skills, and expertise on the modding scene.
Those lads know cars inside out and are skilled tuners.
NI has a great history and heritage of engineering.

Did you not notice that over half the cars featured on your facebook link are not even VAG cars which you seem to exclusively associate with in your failed attempts to be funny, devalues your argument I think?

I agree with nox, I find the constant reposting of other people's memes / jokes (which themselves are overused / old / tired) unoriginal and displays a lack of imagination on behalf of the poster

I expect you will start roaring at me and other posters who disagree that we are off topic

Yep, heard and saw one yesterday, lowered, big wheels, pigeon exhaust and to top it off an automatic (so the boom of the straigbt pipe diesel exhaust really sounded wrong).

He tried to spin the wheels and drift when entering the main road (from a minor road) but kinda forgot about the traction control!

It doesn't have a to be VAG to be feltspec, the thread was what are the next boy racer cars. VAG are and will be very popular for feltspec. No one except you associated them exclusively with feltspec, so the failure is all yours.

Right there Ted, down with this sort of thing.

What's next no to foreign games ?

Just because you've got no smoke and no poke . . .

Oh, and if you don't like the topic, you know what you can do . . .

It was my understanding that the term feltspec is a term like boy racer used as an insult towards people with modified cars.

No, its a term to insult people who have bought a ****box and think a badge/exhaust/lowering kit/stupid wheels/even stupider stickers make it look cool. ;)

An A4 Diesel, lowered. Enormous cracked and split body kit, often with some part or other in primer. Overlarge Mercedes wheels, twin pipes with soot all over the back of the car and several RS4 badges. Oh, and you have to drive it practically reclining in your seat. They always look tiny behind the wheel

Out curiosity what makes a car feltspec??

This season having a roofbox painted to match your car's paint is very much in vogue. Whole. new. level.

Just to use shows as an example the recent titanic dubs or dubshed would more or less explain it. At the end of the day though it is the car owners choice to decide how they modify their carsm generally its more visual mods rather than oreformance though.

    One word

    Remap ;)

Theres a difference remapping a stock car to have a popcorn limiter and having the mods done to actually add real power beyond a remap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

There's a big devide in the diesel scene.
My cousin has a gorgeous red Fabia VRS that he's build inside first stayed subtle but aggressive on the outside. It's got about 230hp from that little oil burner. Nice little rocket.

    Then there's saps with 90hp Passats with a €5000 ugly body kit... That's ****e.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭Gazzmonkey

I see some folks have a misunderstanding of feltspec

    Magherafelt Specification

Any cheap diesel dung with a skrewable turbo, trailing mudflaps and decked to the road (lowered as far as possible whilst still driveable)

It's a northern Ireland thing to poke fun at mid ulster rednecks

Anyone who was on jon44w years ago would know this.

    Regards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Ah I know what is, I was just talking about the VAG scene in general.

Had great fun Felt spotting while driving up the north with a few lads a couple of years back.

Depends on the car but many need no mods other then the map anything above factory bhp level is a real power gain.

For example I could go out tomorrow buy an awx tdi passat for under a grand get it remapped for a couple of hundred and it's at 170+bhp with a powerband right up to the redline. Simples
