This epic race starts at 7 Irish time tomorrow morning. UM1 from around these parts is bib number 292. Not sure if anyone else around here is doing it this year ?

    Enduro bib 320.

Although a lack of facebook selfies to confirm he's actually there.

    Um1s definitely there,
    Some things you can't unsee.

Not sure of the history of Irish women doing this race but Bridget Brady is running under Belgium bib 380.

Doina Nugent is the only ever Irish female finisher, at that was back in 1998.
On the plus side, she still has the fastest ever Irish finish

CP 11 is the first marathon done.

    Enduro 3:52
    Keith Whyte 3:41
Billy Holden 4:07 (thank God, I was afraid he'd run off at 3-hour pace again)

No sign of UM1 as of yet.

I doubt I'll get much work done today ... too busy refreshing the same page hundreds of times, and wishing I'd be there

    Anto through CP11 - 4.11

And he's running together with Rolando Espina by the looks of it

Katalin Nagy, last year's first woman and also the reigning world champion over 24 hrs, is in second place overall in Corinth, less than 4 minutes behind the overall leader.

Still only a third into the race but there is a possibility of an overall female winner this year!

Keith Whyte 7:05 into Corinth. That's fast!

    50 miles

Corinth (CP22, 50 miles). That's the most manic checkpoint of the entire race, extremely busy.

    Keith Whyte 7:05
    Enduro 7:33
UM1 8:36 (running together with Rolando)
    Billy Holden 8:41

That tracker is strangely addictive ...

I have Billy at 13:41 at cp 22! Am I reading it wrong?

    Keith Whyte7:05
Enduro 7:33 UM1 8:36 (running together with Rolando)
    Billy Holden 8:41

    Vilnis pleite 8:22
    Bridget Brady 8:57
    Sammy Kilpatrick 8:02

Assos (CP28, 100k). That's where the climbing starts, very gradual at first though.
    Keith Whyte 9:10
    Enduro 9:36
    Kilpatrick Samuel 10:34
    Pleite Vilnis 10:50
    Billy Holden / UM1 / Rolando 11:25

Cut-off at that point is 12:25 (that's hours since the start = 17:25 pm Irish time)

At the pointy end of the field, Katalin Nagy is still in second place 2 minutes behind the leader, now already past halfway

    Bridget Brady 11:47 cp28

Enduro must have put on the afterburners. He's the top Irish runner at the halfway point, now in 24th place.

    Enduro 12:13
    Keith Whythe 12:31
    Vilnis Pleite 13:39

That's gas. Last year I must have been around the same time into Nemea as Vilnis but it was pitch dark already and I could have sworn it was much, much later in the day.
The other Irish are yet to arrive there.

At the top end they are getting close to the mountain top and Katalin Nagy has taken the lead at CP 46!!! (mountain top is CP 48)

Update: but she's back in second place at CP47

Anto, Rolando & Billy through CP35 together at 19.49 (Irish time)

    Sammy looks out.
    Bridget Brady 15 mins behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,340 ✭✭✭TFBubendorfer

Radzikowski Andrzej wins in just over 23 hrs
Bonfiglio Marco in second place also under 24

    Nagy Katalin fourth place overall.

No results from CP 52, the one after the mountain.

In Tegea, CP 60, just before the second mountain:
    Enduro in 15th place
    Keith Wythe 22nd
Vilnis Pleite 42nd (bloody hell he has improved!)

No other recent news of any other Irish runners I could find. Billy and Anto were crossing the mountain together, Rolando was about 30 minutes ahead of them, Brady was 3 seconds ahead of him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭Ed Mc Groarty

    Rolando through CP60
    Brady CP60 30min. behind

    Billy through CP52
    Um1 15min. behind

Billy and um1 should be through CP60 soon id think.

    Billy and um1 through CP60 15min. apart

UM1 has had to pull out, unfortunately :(

I can't get any news about Billy, which is not a great sign either.

Thanks for following. Very happy with the result. A top ten finish was beyond my pre-race expectations. Resiliance and hill-running fitness were the keys for me. Will definitely have to put a race report together. Considering the quality of the field, it's probably one of my best ever results.

Great Irish gang out there. Big pity that Billy and UM got so very far in but didn't make it. Neither gave up though, and went down fighting!

Great race from Keith W, running the longest he has ever done! Spent a while running together at 2 points. We both had our ups and downs. Superb time from Vilnis as well.

This is an utterly fantastic read, thank you! Pretty decent racing too :)

How on earth do you remember all those details?

"One aid station later at about 153km the road turned a bit"... :pac:

Thanks! I have a good memory for locations. If I look at a map for any race I've done the details will usually come flooding back.

Wow, epic read on an epic run. I'm fascinated by how you could recover from the cramping and how they didn't come back later, especially with climbs and descents. I did once cramp in a marathon and recovered for about 10k but boy did the buggers come back later!

I must take some time to read about Yiannis Kouros (sp?) soon.

Well done on a superb performance.

Probably the reason for the hills not causing a recurrance of the cramping is the simplest one... I do so much training on hills (both road and off road) that I'm relatively well conditioned to handle them. I'd defnitely be in the camp that ascribes the likely cause of cramping to being not well conditioned enough, as opposed to environmental/hydration factors.
