Christmas

I have seen the Christmas boxes of sweets and biscuits in the shop.

This is so stupid. It's not even halloween yet. I hate Christmas so much.

I hate the Christmas party. I was told about it in August, what was I meant to say, I'm busy that night in the middle of December, four months in advance. But i don't want to go.

The lead up to Christmas lasts months. Christmas eve and everyone is in the shops as if it's the last day on earth and they're gonna run out of food.

Just f off with Christmas boxes of sweets. What would you be doing in September with them. Stocking up on boxes of shyte where you always have way more at Christmas than you usually do.

Then the jingle bells songs, day and night on the radio.

Am i the only one who hates Christmas.

I noticed Lidl in Coolock has a Christmas isle last night.

But worse than that, this morning at the junction of the Malahide Road and the N32 there were the usual charity collectors out ~ but this morning the fookers were dressed in Santa and elves costumes [in Spetember] ~ arseholes.

    I'm happy now.

But is there anywhere that doesn't celebrate Christmas. Preferably cheap to get to.

You've just contributed to the festive spirit, The Raptor.

I hope you're proud of yourself. /grinches, as it's still only September, dammit!

I will say though, the worst early-Christmas moment of what the hell I had was in a supermarket a few years back, where they were playing Christmas music...in late July.

I remember this as I paused and exclaimed in the middle of the shop "It's JULY!" in tones of bemused disbelief.

Couldn't agree with you more OP!!! I flipping hate that its out already.

Even my 7 yr old says "it's not even Halloween yet" when those bloody chrisas train ads come on the radio!!! So annoying!!!

Christmas is losing its appeal cause its just dragged out waaaaaay too long.

It should be banned until November 1st!!!!

I used to hate Christmas too... then I was visited by three spirits.

    Jameson, Bush and Teeling.

It won't be long until we hear The Fairytale of New York 15 times a day.

    That song is a pest.

I hate it too Raptor so you definitely aren't the only one.

Eldest daughter worked in Argos last year and she found it all so depressing, the hordes would arrive in the same time every week, obviously after getting the dole and daughter couldn't believe how badly behaved the children were and how much money was spent by the parents on absolute crap. The same parents are probably asking about Back to School allowance before the y have paid off the communion spending.

If you find somewhere cheap to go where I don't have to hear the Little Drummer boy for the nth time please post the destination,I am dreading Christmas this year.

ETA,The toffee wrapped in brown paper has been removed from the tin of Quality street so if anyone tries to pawn one of those off on me Im going to throw it back at them.

It's sad how comercialised it has become with the ads beginning so early. Takes all the good out of it.

People are just worn out by the time it finally comes around and can't wait for it to be over.

I love Christmas. Everything about it. The shopping, the cheesy gifts, the gaudy decorations, the dated songs, the overeating, the complaining about the quality of the chocolates in the tins, the cooking disasters, the squabbles, the togetherness, the parties, and especially the movies. From October to Christmas is my favourite time of year, I LOVE it. I love it even more since I moved away and get so little time with the family all together. It means a lot to me.

I'd have the tree up in October and down in March if I could get away with it.

Anyone who hates Christmas has no heart. It's the happiest time of the year, you know.

    "boughs of holly"...?

Or is it one of those misheard lyrics, "excuse me while I kiss this guy" scenarios?

My dad got one of those Christmas Homer things, you press his hand and he sings that line for a few minutes while doing a little dance.

I hate Christmas too. My dad died a couple days before Christmas Day. Now I spend my Christmas either alone or not belonging elsewhere. Christmas is completely stupid, people falling over themselves to buy presents for people they can't even spend a day with without fighting, being so ungrateful for the family time they have together.

I'm so sorry for your loss and I completely agree. Christmas is meant to be about spending time with the ones you love. A present to represent how grateful you are to them for being there for you or to show how much you care.

A woman I know has already gotten her childrens presents. All of which include ipads, the latest gadgets, action figures, and dolls. She spends about €1000 on each kid. It's ridiculous!!!

My children get to ask Santa for 1 toy and a surprise!!! Then they'll get something small from me and other half and the day will be spent with family talking playing games and having a good time. Maybe a few movies thrown in. That's what Christmas should be.

I love autumn and for that reason I dislike Christmas being imposed on the airwaves and in society so early. I just want to enjoy autumn and its stunning beauty, colour and vibrancy.

UAE for Christmas. Direct flights to Dubai. Muslim country, no Jesus in a manger. Bars open Christmas Day, great weather too. And a few camels in case the wise kings get lost.

As a young teenager I stacked shelves in a supermarket during the Christmas rush. They played the same Christmas songs on a tape in a loop.
It was a relief to stand at the bus stop in the rain after work.

Bars may be open Christmas day but a pint is a fortune and they resent you for drinking it. Silly place, id have no interest in it myself.

I hate all this complaing and moaning about Christmas. If people want to spend €1000's on Christmas. It's their choice and their money.
You don't have to buy Christmas items just because their in the shops. It's the same when summer holidays are advertised at the end of December. You don't have to book one or go to chemists/supermarket and stock up in sun cream/after sun but you rarely hear people moan about this!

Christmas, where all my losses come home to roost.

The forced jollity, the crowded shops, the materialism, comfort eating in to oblivion, needing to use my emergency valium, watching my dad struggle, hearing about people's plans and excitement. I hate it.

This year will be spent like the last few, in my jammies with a tin of Roses for company and some horror films.

Yea only difference is the holidays aren't shoved in for face!!! Ads everywhere, merchandise at the front of the shop entrances, it just really goes OTT.

At least you can avoid the holiday posters if you want!!

I love christmas but I saw christmas decorations in dealz today and it's way too early
Is there any chance it's benefitting people who prefer to spread out all the christmas spend?
It kinda takes the excitement away

I absolutely f*cking despise xmas more and more every year. I really wish I had the money to disappear to a Muslim country for the whole of November and December. If I win the 130 euromillions tonight that is exactly what I will do as well as starting a campaign to have all xmas advertising banned until the second week in December. I'd also ban xmas cards on the grounds they are a waste of paper and destroy the environment, not that I care about the environment. It's the cards that say "Seasons Greetings" that really get on my tits for some reason. I think if one were to eat 10 servings of xmas pudding with double cream in one sitting, that would give you some idea how I feel about xmas.

Well Christmas is magical for the vast majority of people. And it was for me once too.

When Dad died, and then my younger sister, always two empty places at the Christmas Dinner.

    Was never the same since.

We tried, we still try. And there is all the usual crap. But it will never, ever be the same.

For those who have not experienced the loss of someone close, believe me, Christmas is a terribly sad time. Awful in fact, you are absolutely holding it together for the sake of the kids or whatever.

I would urge people to understand that Christmas is on the surface a great time, but for many it is a purgatory that must be endured with a smile and all that for the sake of others.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,915 ✭✭✭The flying mouse

I like Christmas, I see all my family, friends relations who I haven't seen all year, yes it's a sad time also as every year in my wider family there is someone not there, and there missed.but there is a younger generation coming along and it's great for them.

Ps I do certainly think it starts to early, middle of November should be enough time with the media and shops etc.

Love everything about Christmas, the music, food, family, decorations...etc but hate how commercialized it's become, back when I was a kid you wouldn't hear a peep about it until early December, nowadays I'm seeing selection boxes beside Halloween masks, kids these days, in my opinion, just wont know the anticipation or almost magic of waiting for the first Coca-Cola Christmas ad or the build up to the toy show (or maybe that was just my family)

I love Christmas, it's by far my favourite time of year. Already planning multiple Christmas parties and the 12 pubs. Planning to finish up work on the 16th of Dec and not back 3rd Jan and only need to use a few days holiday as we get most of xmas off in addation to our annual leave. Spend all the time up home, I just can't wait!! Food, beer, presents, family, sport on tv what a great time of year!!

Oh and don't forget Christmas fm, it's still saved on the radio in the car from last year the sooner it's back the better.
