New to contact lenses

    Hey there,

So I've been in Dublin for about 2 months now (came here from Italy).

I was looking into laser eye surgery, considering I can afford it now, but after reading many horror stories, I decided to put it off, at least for the moment (I'm 22).

So, I am now looking to get familiar to contact lenses. When I was in Italy I tried getting a pair, but never really went through with it.

What's the first step to get a pair? What brand is "the best" and how long do they generally last?

When I went in Italy the guy selling them took my measurements and told me that I have a particular eye defect that will basically not allow be to buy off-the-shelf lenses and that I will need custom made ones.

How do I go about buying lenses in Dublin? Do you also have shops which have they're own equipment to check your eyesight on-the-spot or am I obligated to go see a doctor first?

I have ever only wear glasses until now, so I am super unfamiliar with what it means to wear contact lenses. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

You need to see an optician first. They'll assess if your eyes are suitable for lenses and what type of lenses you should get.

They'll give you a few pairs to trial and then you go back for a follow up a week or so later to see how you're getting on with them.

How long the lenses last will depend on what ones you get. I've always worn daily disposables as I only wear them when playing sports or on the weekend. Again, the optician will make recommendations based on your eyes and your lifestyle.
