Any repercussions for signing off dole?

Due to current circumstances (extreme stress + Turas Nua) I am contemplating signing off the dole. I don't have a job lined up at the moment, but I do have some savings to get me by while I continue my job search without someone looking over my shoulder/forcing me into applying for unsuitable jobs.

What I want to know is, can you sign off without giving a reason for doing so? And are there any long-term repercussions to doing this? Any insight appreciated.

I know it is not exactly the most intelligent thing to do, but to be honest, I can no longer live under the stress of my current circumstances.

Also, I am wondering if signing off online actually works --as these things often don't where DSP are concerned. I would rather not call into the office and have to explain myself since I don't have a job lined up etc.

I don't think they will care to be honest. Just another number off the list.

Why would ya even consider this. Your savings won't long be going and that dole would come in handy

Stress see your GP,yes you can sign off online.
The problems may start when you go to sign on again,ie what have you been doing/living on ect also you may have run out of money by then.
    Please think about this carefully.

If you are stressed you may qualify for illness benefit. You should talk to your gp about this.

Also you can just sign off online.

The lack of continuity of your stamp could be the biggest issue AFAIK

If you're genuinely sick and suffering from stress get it diagnosed and confirmed by your doctor.

You can sign off JSA and apply for disability allowance. It takes quick some time for disability allowance to be processed but you can receive a payment from the community welfare officer.

Disability allowance forms needs your doctor to complete. Once completed drop it into your welfare office, sign off JSA as you are not a job seeker and ask for an appointment with the community welfare officer.

You must have a lot of savings to be throwing away 180 a week.

You're better being in the system rather than being a misfit, 180 a week is better than being broke from spending your savings, you could save the 180 and spend the savings :)

I over heard a conversation between two Turas Nua workers when I was in for appointment today. They were discussing someone who had signed off welfare as she'd gotten a job, but it was only for 25 hours a week. She still has to attend Turas Nua, even though she's not claiming welfare, as she's not gotten employment for 30+ hours. Made me wish I'd read the forms they asked me to sign on day 1. Make sure you can actually get out of Turas Nua before you sign off!

Take note of all of the above posts!
Do not under any circumstances sign off if you are legally entitled to dole.
You paid for it in your previous employment and there are thousands of
others like you in a position that you really didn't ask for.

If you are stressed then see a doctor but don't go on thinking it will pass
as it doesn't as it builds and builds....and builds.

    That is strange.

How can they make her attend meetings if she is not claiming welfare? I mean, they can't impose sanctions on her if she's not claiming anyway...or so I would think?

I will have to look into this -- don't really know much about it. Thank you.

I know I was really shocked. I presume we must have signed up to something saying we agree to continue attending until we get 30+ hours employment. I know the company only gets paid for getting you into full time employment which would be 30+ hours. I know if it was me in that position I'd be ignoring all future contact from them.

Me too. It's not like they can force her to attend meetings when she's working and not claiming anything. I very much doubt they can act on this in any way even if she did sign a form. But then, what do I know. I'm a bit freaked out by the power Turas Nua seem to be in a position to wield over the unemployed of this country.
