Who should pay the membership fees?

    I've paid my own ACA membership fees since I qualified a few years ago. But someone mentioned to me does my work not pay for them? I work in practice btw. So am I a mug paying for it myself and should my employer be paying for it for me?

    Your employer should pay it on your behalf, does he pay for CPD requirements ?

    He pays for some of my CPD, courses that we go on together or ones he sends me on. I make up the rest of my CPD hours with online CPD, it's handier to manage with family life instead of a half day course taking up a full day when you include travelling.

    Really it depends what arrangement you make with your employer. I have always had them paid as part of my salary package

    Yeah it's not in my contract of employment or my salary package. If he does pay my subs next year, do I repay it through the payroll each month. Or does it go through as BIK?

    THe OP says he's an ACA working in practice. This is what Reveue say about professional subscriptiions paid by an employer:

    Professional subscriptions
    If your employer pays a subscription to a professional body on your behalf, or reimburses you if you have paid a subscription, a taxable benefit will not arise if membership of that professional body is relevant to the business of your employer, i.e. directly related to the duties of your office/employment.

    Where membership of a professional body cannot be so regarded as relevant to the business of your employer, any subscription paid directly or indirectly by your employer, will be regarded as a taxable benefit.

    This is key. If the individual is just carrying out routine audits then it will fail under this test.

    I'd disagree. If the qualification is a pre-requisite for the position of employment then it's not BIK. Most audits could be described as "routine". It doesn't imply some lower level of professionalism.
