Looking at a 2008 Saab 93. Just looking at it on line.

It has 307,376km on the clock. Very high miles and likely to be a rep car based on reg (clearly an import).

From the photos the car looks in good condition.

Its a TiD engine. Just wondering his that a high milage for a TiD. Clearly above average but its reflected on the price.

Its a Fiat engine also found in Alfa Romeos, Chryslers and Opels. They like flywheels so make sure there is evidence that it was done recently at that mileage or the cheap price may not be the bargain it appears.

I have a petrol 93. Liked the car. Sold it and still regret it but will be investigating this more.

Does the car have the 1.9 8-valve engine (120bhp) or the 16-valve (150bhp) engine?

Looks nice and clean. Good spec, it also has a CD changer for six CDs. It reads MP3 CDs as well.

When you ring the dealer, ask about the warranty. Given the mileage, it will likely be just 3 months for engine and gearbox, so when actually looking at the car you need to go through everything with a fine comb: electric windows, radio, CD changer, parking sensors etc. etc.

Ask which engine it is. The 150 bhp engine can give more issues than the 120 bhp one.

Can't remember the intervals for timing belt change from the top of my head, but for both engines it is recommended to change it (with water pump and pulleys) every 50,000 miles instead of the much higher original factory specification because the water pumps can fail earlier.

It is also a good idea to change the oil sooner than allowed by Saab.

Always nice to change the oil frequently, but I think the reall push on quicker oil changes is with the older 9-3 cars (the 98-02 or whatever version, that looks like the last generation of 900): catalytic convertor cooks the oil more than you'd like, and it degrades rapidly so 6000 mile oil changes then recommended; they improved situation with the redesign that moved to a saloon like the car the OP linked
