    Hi all,

I've a 2002 Yaris and the carpet on the passengers side ( front only) is soaking wet and I'm not sure where the water is coming from?

Had a accident there a few weeks backed, replaced the bumper and thought that was it.

Went out to the car there to give it a hoover and only noticed the dampness then. Checked the Coolant and Its full to the top so not sure where it's coming from?

    Any ideas appreciated

Had similar problem in a carina before and it turned out to the windscreen which was badly fitted before. If you have windscreen cover just get a rock and get yourself a new one.

There is a little hose going from the heater matrix through the floor of the car if you look at the carpet under the dash on the passenger side. Make sure it's not came out and running straight onto the passenger side floor.

In my case (same car) water was leaking to the passenger side front floor from a bad gasket on the left tail light and through the seam weld at the bulkhead. The bulkhead is easily tested with some water! Water from tail light can be spotted under the carpet near the rear passenger door.

I would say it is your door seals. Same thing happened to me recently.

    More than likely heater matrix

I'm thinking heater matrix too, but coolant level not dropped?

Does the car have air conditioning?

Did you have the car washed recently?
I can't put my old banger thru a garage carwash as water comes through the air con i think and floods through the passengers side!
The heating / air con seems messed up and I haven't had the chance to look at it yet.

Similar problem with an old Passat but after research they seem to be notorious for it worldwide. I do think it's door seals. It would be a nightmare to find the leak though. I recall an episode of Wheeler dealers where they put a smoke machine in the car to see where the smoke came out, from the outside.

I wonder can that be done here ?

Simple, put the heater on max heat,if it doesn't heat up,then a fair bet it's the heater matrix, happened twice to me,bith French cars

Haven't washed the outside of it in a few months tbh.

Checked the heater and it heats up as normal.

Pollen Filter seems to be ok too

Taste it. You'll know straight away if it's coolant or water

This happened to my car a couple of times. First time the seal in the door needed to be redone as rain water was getting in that way. The second time the pipe that drains water from the roof window to the outside, had somehow come in done and was pouring water straight into the car. Floor in rear drivers side was constantly soaking wet!

I had the same problem ... didn't think of that solution!

don't...tasting it probably won't kill you but ethylene glycol is toxic.
If your coolant is coloured, mop it up with white tissue. You'll know straight away if it's coolant or water

The Passat leaked from under the battery housing, water would lodge here and pour in the air vent and leak it's way to the vents under the seat. You had to take out the battery and pop a little bung cover with a long narrow screwdriver.

    Hi,

    OP here again.

    Still no improvement :(

Anyone know of a cheap smoke bomb I could get but I dont want the smell to stick in the car afterwards?
