Insurance for Foreign License - International Driving Permit holders

Hi, I have seen many similar threads, but could not sort out an insurance for myself. I found an 07 Skoda Fabia 1.2 litre with less than 100k kms for about 3.5k. Paid a deposit and then I wanted to insure it. The only quote I managed to get is Liberty and that is too for 4.2k !! No other brokers of companies out of the 20+ I called were not able to provide insurance as I do not have an Irish or EU license. By the way Clements.com stopped providing third party insurance in Ireland and I am screwed now ! I am thinking about giving up the idea of getting a car now and sort out my license. Any comments ?

You need to begin the process of getting an Irish driving licence which starts with the theory test. The international driving permit mentioned in the title counts for nothing, it's your national driving licence that matters.
