Who are those Irish actors whose faces you instantly know but whose name escapes you?Not conventionally goodlooking enough to be leads like Colin Farrell,Pierce Brosnan etc but good for parts like Gardai, father figures, politicians or in international features might pop up as henchmen, baddies etc.

Starting off with Eamon Hunt, pictured on the left.Face familiar from Adam And Paul (the alcoholic in the bedsit who they try to sell the telly to),I Went Down and Man About Dog.He was also in that TG4 political drama The Running Mate.

Ciaran Hinds pops up in loads of things, usually as a sinister bad guy.

It's only been in the last couple of years that the name instantly comes to me when I see him.

He's had some big enough roles but he does have one of those distinctive faces where you might not recognize him straight away but think where do I know him from?

Eanna MacLiam.I was reminded of him again when that Bob Geldof anti phone vandalism ad from the 80s resurfaced where he plays the vandal. There was a period where you'd constantly see him pop up in particular Dublin based movies. The guy who gets nailed to the pool table in The General, the fella who goes to the audition thinking the queue is people buying drugs in The Commitments and the older son who's in the army in The Snapper. He seems to have given up acting in recent years, you never see him in anything lately.
