my brother has a small problem

got caught by a gosafe Van last June, and the letter arrived......unfortuately he doesn't live at the address the letter was addressed to so the letter wasn't opened.

a second registered letter arrived last week so this letter was opened and he has got a notice to appear in court....

he has no intention of contesting the speeding ticket

how does he go about rectifying the situation and pay the fine and be more careful in 50kph zones next time ?

Turn up in court, explain what happened and hope the judge just applies the original fine and points.

Yep. Be humble, admit it straight out and it should be fine.

Turn up in court no matter what. Bring proof of the new address, and apologize that it came to this and that he has no quarrel with the original fine.

That's one judge in Kerry. Even if you didn't get the notice the charge can still stand. By the time the OP gets to court every Tom Dick and Harry will be using that excuse and some judges will be totally plssed off with it.

If I was going that route I'd engage a solicitor, as there are a couple of technicalities you can get of. Be prepared to pay about €300 including VAT.

A Judge can't do anything about the points though so it will be 5 points for the conviction.
