    Confirmation bias at work.

I've never heard of repatriation flights being organised before an airline fails. While Monarch haven't been doing wonderful for years I think several people are attempting to add 1+1 together to get 2.

Strange that United and Omni are being chartered in and not someone closer to home like Titan Airways or another ACMI operator.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭Car99

Well if they are it'll be a massive unexpected shock to their employees , I was talking to some of their staff last night and everything was normal and we were discussing their winter schedule. They're still hiring, I know people that joined em very recently and another that is to join them in 6 weeks. Sounds ominous now though.

Many strange things happen in this wonderful industry

I wonder if the bosses in Monarch have told the CAA in advance and the CAA for the 1st time have learned lessons and pre positioning aircraft.

Rumours Monarchs aircraft are being remote parked at a couple of UK airfields.

From a football message board but quite a lot on it live near Manchester airport, comment about Thomas Cook comes from someone who posts very rarely and usually when he's quite certain.

It is weird at having to go so far afield to find the capacity, but many of the usual suspects in Europe who pick up this type of work are already busy sub-contracting for carriers. Others might have the capacity in the schedule during the small hours but probably don't have the crew.

The Haj is nearly over so there could be some capacity there?

Sad to think a long established name like Monarch could go under.:(

according to wikipedia they have 25 A321s and 30 737max on order.
Could Ryanair swoop in like a white knight(even though they undermined the failing company's business) and take over their routes, take over their planes, take over their orders and launch a transatlantic service using the A321s.
Airbus would have you believe "With a range of up to 4,000 nm. /7,400km., the A321 is capable of flying longer routes, for example transatlantic flights from Europe to U.S East Coast."

Monarch are furiously denying this rumour by the way.

Wouldn't be Ryanairs style, I don't remember them taking over other airlines, apart from aerlingus? Maybe someone could correct me.

They did take over others and fired the staff who wouldn't accept new contracts.
They may be interested in this airline based on their presence in certain airports and the ability to negotiate strategic advantage for some shiny baubles.

Perhaps Monarch are getting these charters together on behalf of the CAA for another operator? Thomas Cook are in a lot of debt and I wonder how JET2 are doing?

Monarch are hardly going to admit they are going under now are they.

Ryanair are actively seeking to pick up 737 slots they'll be in like Flynn.

TCX are having financial issue all right. Monarch posted a profit last year as well.

total volume passengers in 2015 down 18.6% if wikipedia is correct; that can't be good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 993 ✭✭✭737max

little harm in speculating. They're privately held and even if public whatever happens will happen before markets open tomorrow.

TCX have historically always been in debt, even going back to Airtours.

Monarch wouldn't be organising charters from US legacy carriers on behalf of the CAA.

As for their pax drop in 2015, bear in mind the restructuring and streamlining theY did of their operation in 2014 when they were bailed. The 757s and A330s all went.

That link at the top has been stewing over the last few hours and has speculated that the airline's investor is ready to pull the plug so that they can invest in another industry.

Ryanair have actually called Boeing and asked them to slow production of their 737's and slow up slots, they haven't got the pilots to fly the aircraft! 150 on average leaving per month!!

    Where are they all going?

Norwegian, Easyjet, Jet2, China Southern and Emirates from the top of my head

Are conditions that much better in Norwegian than ryanair that pilots are leaving one for the other?

I've seen a tweet which shows an email from Monarch CEO to staff saying apparently the imminent failure of Aviator, the handling agent, has confused matters and the airline is safe. Doesn't explain the 747s etc

Real shame they are most likely going, was great having them in DUB for years doing charters.

Best organised airline failure ever if it all comes to pass - craft all parked remote at bases, rescue flights in place. Comical Ali operating their twitter still.

They've two planes outbound to Ibiza right now. Surely if they were going under they'd be keeping aircraft in UK?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭KCAccidental

Turns out it's a couple of planes on remote stands at MAN with no buses to ferry the pax.

According to a Monarch insider quoted on "yellopages" forum, the last flight of a Monarch liveried aircraft is en route to BHX from IBZ. Something to do with a STG5M bond not being forthcoming from their owners. 1sy brexit victim apparantly.

Watching a Monarch aircraft boarding for departure on time in LGW this morning. Hopefully the rumours are just that .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 708 ✭✭✭BZ

Monarch currently have 10 flights airborne from the UK this morning to a list of destinations. If it turns out that Monarch are fine and not winding down it will show how with social media a rumour can snow ball very quickly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭1123heavy

Monarch up and about flying high this morning ... what a load of tosh that all was haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Did anyone validate if United actually had conflicting flights scheduled? And from when?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 Furasta

Flights are running as normal as was mentioned, rumors that there was a overnight meeting with the CAA in the UK possibly giving them some more time.

    Statement on the BBC:

    bbc com/news/business-37469743

United 747-400 on the ground in Palma de Mallorca (PMI):

Cant post links yet so if someone could fix them to urls that would be great. :)

Looks like some sort of last minute deal. Hopefully it lasts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 Furasta

Seems to be resolved for now, although remains to be seen how long this will last. Second United 747-400 enroute from Chicago to Tenerife seems to be changing course, could be returning home.

    flightradar24 com/UAL2295/b1ef7a1

    Still cant post links :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 Furasta

Ok it seems that the second 747 has not changed course, it had been tracking North for awhile but its refreshed back on course, spotty mid-Atlantic tracking. So probably whatever deal that's been reached isn't 100%
