is it difficult to replace a back door with a pvc unit ?

Thinking of tackling this myself tomorrow, as ours is in bits.

    thanks

It's not too bad, provided the new door and frame are the correct size. After you take out the wooden frame you might need to make the opending slightly bigger to get the new unit in.

The last one I did I removed the door from the frame and just fitted the frame. I needed to enlarge the opening along one side but that was it. Make sure the frame is not squashed into the opening and square in every way. Use the supplied brackets to secure the frame in place. You can use frame screws but many of the good upvc door frames will have steel inside them.

Any big gaps on the outside fill with sand and cement. Small gaps use expanding foam. If your foaming around the middle of the frame jam a piece of timber across the frame so the foam doesn't push it in.

They aren't that bad to do if you take your time and have the right tools. Last one I did took 4 hours, including enlarging the opening by 20mm along one side. Well worth it imo, never need to touch it again.
