Its an external (front) door with a euro-style cylinder. Distance between handle shaft centre and lock barrel centre is around 65mm. Local hardware shop reckons about 20-25 euro. Seems a lot to me, any other ideas?

Relatively speaking that's not expensive for such a thing.

you have to buy them in pairs. Mila in Kilbarrack. Out of interest, how much were you thinking would be acceptable?

    Its fairly similar to this
http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-straight-door-handle-pack-of-1-pair/75218_BQ.prd for £14, but my existing one is squarer at the ends

I do expect them to come in pairs.

From a small-town hardware shop it is probably not a surprising quote, but I'm looking for cheaper suggestions. Just had a look on Woodies site, but couldn't see anything there. Not seeing great choice on ebay either. I may just try to fix what I have. The external handle comes away when you pull the door shut.

I used this crowd recently , very helpful on the phone and could provide detailed measurements etc so I knew I was ordering correct handle

    http://www.handlesupplies.ie/

Price wise a bit more expensive then what I could find on the web\ebay , but I knew exactly what I was getting so was happy to pay a little bit over
