    Hi all,

i'm not very tech minded so excuse the simple terms here…

My current Sky+ box is up in my attic running to numerous tv's in the house (not multi room though).
I wanted to get the Sky HD box but was told by sky (this was a good while ago) that my current "sky eye's" wouldn't work wit the hd box?
Also that if i wanted the HD i'd have to situate the box down at the tv to run the hdmi cables to/from it.

Does sky not offer a HD service, wirelessly?

The wireless bit is from the satellite to your dish, 22,000 miles. You need wires for the remaining 20 feet odd.

HD cannot go over normal RF cables without additional equipment such as an HDMI modulator.

Yes they do now, its called sky Q and you then get minibOxes for each extra location, they connect wirelessly. Siting box in the attic is old school now.

have a look as Sky Q

I'm very similar to the OP. Got a "great job" done about 10 or 12 years ago, only difference my Sky Box is in a press in the Utility Room, and I can get Sky in 4 different rooms (didn't get multi-room so can't watch different things at the same, but that's fine for me). But new Sky HD box won't work in HD.

Like the OP I'm not brilliant tech-wise, but I thought from my initial research on Sky Q that the main Sky Q box has still to be connected directly to a TV?

Yes the q box has to be connected to a tv. I then say siting box in attic etc.

By the way, it has just dawned on me that the op may just want the hd box and not necessarily HD quality pics and in that case sky told them wrong as I am pretty sure you can buy a gadget that plugs into the hd box and will allow a magic eye. The name of it will come to me .... eventually.

ah got it, its called i/o link and here it is in amazon but the newer sky boxes may have done away with that facility as well so check.

An option with SkyQ would be to place it in the same press in the utility and place a SkyQ mini box beside the TV as the mini and the main box use Wifi to connect to each other, the downside being only 2 mini boxes can connect to the main box at any one time, so this may not be suitable in your case as you currently have 4 rooms connected.

An HDMI over IP extender kit using cat 5/6/7 internal cabling with remote IR control would add another room.

No RF out or I/O link option for these boxes.

Thank you all for the replies.
I will rin and ask about sky Q, hopefully not too expensive.
I wouldn't even mind if it had to have the box Ib one room but unjust don't want wires running up the walls to attic etc. Also cud live without the hd quality but wud like the new sky menus as the +box still goes be old layout.
