Present for somebody becoming an Irish citizen.

Right AH, I look forward to your contribution.

Our Polish neighbour has invited us to a lunch at a local bar/restaurant next weekend, to celebrate her becoming an Irish citizen. She and her Polish husband have lived here for a good few years (enough for her to become a citizen) and have a couple of kids.

Both families get on well and I think I should bring some gift, and apart from the obvious generic stuff like foods/drinks (which would still be fine), I'm struggling to think of something that would suit this specific event.

Can AH suggest something that is a bit more meaningful for this particular celebration?

I look forward to a wide wide range of replies.

A framed copy of the 1916 proclamation would be nice. Something like this - http://totallyirishgifts.com/framed-1916-proclamation.html

A traffic cone , if you put a bit of effort into wrapping it up properly you might be able to disguise its appearance.

If they share or have different surnames, you could look them up and see if there is a coat of arms and get that framed for them so while celebrating their new Irish Citizenship, you are showing an appreciation and recognition for their heraldry.

    Anal beads (a.k.a Satan's rosary)

If you know them well , you could hand them a filled in Deed Pole form

So they can change from Przybyszewski to something more Irish like O'Przybyszewskeey

Failing that, how about a commemorative coin from www.dublinmintoffice.ie ?!

Most 'Irish' gifts are tacktastic unfortunately.

What about a beautiful photograph of their adopted country? Something framed for the wall. This guy has gorgeous stuff: http://www.petercox.ie/themes/wild-atlantic-way

It would be subtle, but still something they'd keep and look at everyday instead of a piece of junk for the back of the press.

Maybe they don't have a "back of the press". Get them something tacky so they can start one.

If you were getting a commemorative coin I recommend going with those issued by the central bank rather than the dublin mint office.

Toddy Doyle movie collection and father ted TV collection. Then tell her to watch them hundreds of times and use catchphrases from them.

Seriously though, the Irish jersey with their name on it sounds good

If they're foodies, what about a hamper of the best Irish cheeses, oils, ham, cake, chocolates, etc? Though not if you want it to be a memento!

There's nice silver jewellery in the Irish Archaeology shop

    http://irisharchaeology.ie/

but jewellery is probably more of a gift for an individual.

Depends on what kind of people they are. The National Gallery has some lovely prints - Yeats, Keating, Ireland's favourite painting On the Turret Stairs by Frederic Burton?
