    Hi ,

I am moving to Ireland form UK and would like to ask cheaper way of traveling on public transport in Dublin ?

My new workplace in Dublin offer Taxsaver tickets but are those cost effective ? how about using Leap Frog card if i want to use LUAS form Tallaght to city centre ?

Taxsaver is generally cheaper, especially if you're on the higher tax rate. It will depend on your usage patterns though. Might be worth adding the Dublin Bus also if you're planning on going out in the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights as it includes Nitelink. Also for your trips home to UK the Airlink is also included on the Dublin Bus annual ticket.

BTW it's actually Leap Card, not leapfrog.

Tax saver options are loaded onto leap cards. At least mine is.

I think the taxsaver tickets are now 'loaded' onto leap card anyway - that is how the taxsaver tickets where issued by my company. This was a few years ago - but I still have the same leap card which I now top up myself when needed (I drive into work now).

Sorry i dont know why i put it down as "leap frog" and not leap card :(((

So if taxsaver is loaded into Leap Card then both are same things ? Or taxsaver discount is applied on Leap card ?

    Thanks

There seems to be a real aquatic theme with smart cards ...leap, oyster, octopus

a tax saver ticket is when your employer buys a monthly or annual ticket for you. They usually deduct the cost of the ticket from your gross (pre-tax pay) so the effective cost to you is around half the face value of a ticket.

Your employer has to take part in the scheme, they're not obliged to. They also might have their own rules on when they will buy the tickewt for you and if they will take it as one chunk from your pay or spread it over time.

The leapcard can have either money for paying fares, or tickets which are loaded onto the card. SO you might have an annual luas ticket, and have a money balance of 15, which you can use to pay for a bus or train say.

lxflyer keeps the leapcard thread up to date with the ticket types, a much better source of info than the state run organisations.

I believe Leap was deliberately done to match. Lead to a very confusing (for non Irish) round on Only Connect though

I love that term. We should start referring to leapfrog on boards and it would be great if the bus and luas validators croaked instead of beep when you tapped it.

Hard to believe they were organised enough to make it deliberate ...

The theme continues around the world, in Auckland, it's called a Hop card. Not marketed with a frog, but it could be :-)
