Jomashop €1.4k cheaper for Omega Seamaster 300?

I always promised myself once I hit my 30th birthday I'd buy a nice watch.

    I'm there now.

I've thought hard about Breitlings but they're too big and obvious to be worn in a formal setting (imo).

After much debate I've finally (I think) settled on an Omega Seamaster 300m with a blue dial.

The Irish list price is €3,700.

On Jomashop it's currently €1,400 cheaper. I'm aware of VAT/customs if delivered here etc but am able to collect the watch in the states when over there.

The question is... is a €1,400 enough to offset the "risk" of buying grey market?

As I understand it I'll have to pay for the service intervals every 4/5 myself (approx. €350?) but the concern would be that Omega won't touch a grey market watch. Is that the case?

Anything else obvious I should concerned with?

...another factor in the decision is that I think the saving would offset any potential depreciation so if I do ship it on in a few years, I won't be out of pocket. Is it being grey market likely to effect that?

    Thank y'all :)

(EDIT: ought to say - i want a watch for all occasions, may end up with a rubber band or nato strap on it too)

Even though your grey market watch doesn't come with a manufacturer warranty... it is still an Omega & is supplied to the grey market by Omega or one of their agents... They don't care where you bought the watch, they just see dollar signs every time you bring it for a service...

I have a TAG that I bought on the grey market and they are absolutely delighted to take my money... I'm not trying to cast a negative shadow on them, but business is business...

Realistically, by the time your watch needs its first service it will be out of warranty anyway. In the case of my Breitling emergency it was good to buy from an AD as the first service & battery change for the transmitter was free and would have cost £250 if I had bought from a grey dealer or outside warranty. Less likely with an auto.

I bought a modest watch off jomashop before. don't forget they will offer their own warranty as well so if anything does go wrong, they'll be some come back all be it a lot more hassle to send the watch back to them. But is it 1400 worth of potential hassle? Hmmm, not so sure but its up to yourself. Personally i'd probably go for it for that price of watch. My main concern of buying on line like that is getting a fake but i think those guys are ligit so no worries there. I always get the impression you'd be very unlucky to have something go wrong anyway with a watch but the guys on here would be more in the know with that....all i know is i've plenty of watches and nothing has ever gone wrong with them apart form changing batteries!

Great choice of watch by the way....its on my wish list....

Link to where it's 1400 cheaper?

You will get 15-20 percent off Irish list price by asking for a discount.

I thought Weirs were notoriously bad for haggling these days?

    As in they won't budge?

Yeah I was fairly sure that someone here had commented that you will struggle to get even 5-10% these days, although that might have been specific to Rolex and/or it might have been specific to the period where there was a lot of volatility around the Swiss franc exchange rate there last year…so I could be wrong.

Thanks guys. In the absence of any horrific stories I think that's what I'll be doing so.

Try pluswatch.it for an eu purchase and a manufacturer warranty at a little more than the joma price

    Thank ya!!

How's that happen? I thought the manufacturers were very strict on pricing for official retailers?

Just looking at some of the German dealers on chrono 24 and they're coming in at c. €2,500 for the Seamaster you want. Good thing about buying in the E.U. is the lack of customs issues.

Best of luck with it. A lovely watch.

I'd say you're after causing a lot of people to consider buying one now. Good work! :D

I'm gonna be in New York for Christmas and kinda want to collect it there as an xmas / birthday present to myself... any reason to go EU over US other than that? If we exclude customs issues.

They aren't official resellers rather they buy from them and sell on but the warranty is stamped at the point of origin

Would recommend pluswatch.it personally I found them good to deal with and buy from
