Hey you lot. I wanna collect a few gamecube games and play them and all. But gamecube's are mega expensive right now, and Wii's can be got for pennies from cex and you can get the ones that play Gamecube games I imagine, so a wii with a gamecube controller is a fair bit cheaper than a gamecube.

Anyway, is there disadvantage to it? Apart from not being able to access the gameboy player.

You should be able to grab a Gamecube for about 20-40 euro.

eBay, I'd rarely buy anything retro from anywhere in Ireland, silly prices for common stuff.

Gamecube for €60, probably get it down a few euro with a little haggling, seems decent enough link

That said, aside from owning a cool looking console, the GC offers no advantage over the Wii, aside from being compatible with the GB Player add-on.
A Wii will likely cost less, come with a few games, and be easily softmodded to play import GC titles from Japan, which are fantastic.

Definitely an advantage to use the wii rather than the cube in the video department. The wii has cheap component cables letting you play cube games in 480p without needing to spend €300 on the cube component cable.

If you have pal cube discs you will need to run them through the swizz homebrew to force 480p as only ntsc games support holding the B button down to trigger 480p mode.

The wii is an overclocked cube. When cube games are loaded the cpu and gpu clock speed simply slows to cube speed so there is no emulation, it's 100% the same code running as on the cube.

Seems the Wii will work with the GBA connector as well. I really don't see much advantage in using a GC other than using the GBA player. Maybe someday I'll get to finish FF Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords!
