Disability means test advice.

    Hi all,
I need some advice, I have recently being awarded Disability Allowance but my weekly means is €44.78. I have been awarded €148 as opposed to €188 I don't understand why I didn't get the full rate and I have a few questions for informed people willing to reply and help me out but first some personal details about me.

I'm 28 year old male Living with my single mother who works. I have no savings, I have a current account with just a few euro.

    My questions are

    1. Would I be means tested I have previously been on illness benefit and was on supplementary while awaiting decision on Disability Allowance, to my understanding I can't get means tested on a social welfare payment. i also got the full rate for Supplementary.

    2. When I applied for disability is my parent assessed for means even if Im over 25? To my knowledge only co-habitant are and are co-habitant not spouses or partners that cannot be related?

    3. I understand less than €50,000 is nil, but if my parents income means is not accessed. How was my total net income €44.87 if I don't have no savings etc I have sent all bank statement, mother mortgage, payslip etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I sent in 6 months bank statements, money went in from when I was on illness benefit as that was paid through the bank, I just told them I had bank account I've no savings. I sometimes put money out of my supplementary welfare allowance as that was paid in my local post office into my bank also when my Illness benefit ran out.

I sent mother pay slip also as they asked for it. But don't understand why they would want that.

Do appeal this - looks like they means tested you based on your mother's income as if she's your partner...

Thanks for the advice Electra. I found out today because I regularly get lends of her which I pay back when I get paid. That's why they accessed it as income seems a bit draconian but there ya go. If anyone is going for this in the future be weary if you get payment of family or friends in the bank they will treat this as net weekly means. And give a reduced rate. Currently trying to resolve now atm.: /

I rang disability place in Longford told them about the lends of my mother, was talking to a nice woman she told me to just write a letter stating they were lends and her mobile number if they wanted to chat to her and that they will cease. A week or two later got award full amount. Hope this helps.
