Tonight BBC is showing a remake of an old episode of Steptoe And Son titled A Winters Tale with new actors. The publicity blurb says the old episode is lost and they were working from the script but a look on Youtube will find the full original episode.I'm certain I read somewhere that all episodes of STAS survive so you have to ask what the point is?I missed the remake of an episode of Till Death Us Do Part earlier in the week.I know a lot of the earlier episodes of that were wiped so that might make more sense.

Watching it now.Only serves to reinforce the old if it ain't broke don't fix it saying.Pointless without Wilfred Brambell and Harry.H.Corbett in the lead roles.

They also did 'Are you being served'. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either...

On the plus side, Roy Barragclough (played Norris in Corrie), did an amazing job as Mr Grainger! The negative for me was Jason Watkins (who played Herrick in Being Human), who was miscast as Mr Humphries, in my opinion.

I think I read somewhere that the rationale behind these remakes was twofold. One to celebrate classic British comedy and secondly that these are being used as pilots for a complete remake of one of the shows. Not sure how true that is though...
