I've seen plenty this year too. In fact, I've photographed and recorded over thirty different species so far this year (although to be fair, that's probably a poor return given Ireland has approximately 180 different species of hoverfly). They vary so greatly in shape, size and colour that chances are you have seen one, but just didn't know it! Here's a few I managed to capture this year (I know, I know, it's a cheap excuse to upload more of my images!

Volucella pellucens (female Large Pied-hoverfly)
Merodon equestris (two colour variants)
Volucella bombylans 'plumata' (male)
Leucozona laternarius (female)
Didea fasciata (male)

Leucozona glaucia (female)
