Wondering if I could use a medical card or a visa debit card ? I can't afford a passport nor a driving permit. I might as well not exist with how little proof of who I am I have ! I really appreciate any advice !

Were you born? Was there some sort of certificate issued to commemorate the event?

Birth cert, there'll be one at home.

    Your home, not my home.

Careful now. That's dangerously close to dividing the thread by zero...

I have it but I need a second id to confirm.

    Not figuratively? Metaphorically? Even basically?

Show'em the tag your mum stitched onto your undies, that will be proof enough.

From the Garda age card site:

You must be aged 18 years or over to apply for an Age Card

You must have either a Birth Certificate, Passport or GNIB Card to apply for an Age Card

You must supply a colour passport photo

So just your Birth cert and photos needed... good luck.

    Can I use a medical card ?

Break the Garda station window with a brick on the way in and you can use the charge sheet as a secondary ID

I've already gone with just that, but the garda said I needed another id.

What'll he use to verify his ID when he's arrested and charged?

It's almost as if the poor lad doesn't exist... :(

Perhaps the guard was referring to Freud's topographic model? Presumably the idea of getting the age card is closely tied in with the Pleasure Principle? Are your uncoordinated instinctual trends getting you into trouble with the law? Or with the nom de père as Lacan might put it, si vous préférez?

I'd assume so. It's not that unusual for an 18 year old to not have a passport or licence... what do they expect? I'd chance the medical card anyway, bring a bank statement or headed letter that's addressed to you too. It's probably about meeting the right garda too.

You surely have a PPS card by now too yes? That's probably even the best thing you can bring after licence/passport.

    Best of luck.

Handier to use a birthday card. Only valid if signed by a granny. Also, don't leave the tenner inside. It may be misconstrued as a bribe. That could go either way.

I remember a mate of mine being asked for ID in a club in the 80's, he didn't have any but there was a big mirror at the door and he said to the door man, look thats me there, doorman thought it was funny and let him in

Well it says you need to apply online first, then bring the form (once received back) and ID to the Garda Station

I don't think they will accept a medical card but if you go into your nearest social welfare office and ask for a social services card with your pps number they will organise one for you. You will need your birth certificate the long version afaik and also evidence of your address. If they are issuing the new cards they will also take your photo and it will appear on the card. New card will take about a week to arrive.

You'll need to burn the station down.

Then burn your house down to destroy the evidence.

Busy little week you've got ahead of you...

It's always "burn this down" and " burn that down " isn't it ?

Used be a time " a blast of piss" would do it or a dump in a tub of butter would do.

Bring a pocket mirror to the station, next time he asks for additional ID, take out the mirror, look at yourself and tell him that it is definitely you.
