Unless VW are contributing towards the cost of replacing it I hope your not paying a main dealer to replace an engine on a 9 year old car.

I have an audi four years never gave any trouble strange the Golf is acting up what happened. Ask a scrapyard shur thats where engines are got.

Ring all local mechanics and ask if they will replace engine. If so they may want to source it themselves

@ OP. Like all mass produced cars VWs and Audis will have their issues and are nothing special in terms of dependability. Those engines use a lot of oil and failure to keep the right type and quantity of synthetic oil can lead to common and serious problems. AFAIK, the twin charged version of the TSI is even more troublesome but the reason you're having difficulty sourcing an engine is because lots of VW/Audi owners are having the same problem you are.

Does it have the same engine as the OPs car?

    +1

They will guarantee the engine repair work done.

You won't have to take a gamble on an engine from a scrapyard which might not be much better than the one you are replacing.

Because the scrappy might guarantee the engine but they won't cover the cost of labour to have it fitted and then removed if faulty.

It's stated above in the beginning of the original post. Versions of that engine have well documented problems.

Do you have the UK reg? lt should be on the registration cert.. You can do an MOT check online to verify the mileage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Leary89

Iv done a check with my wheels through done deal everything looked OK bar it saying insurance would be higher

I would say do some research. See what other cars run the same engine code and try to work out if there are other engine codes that can be used for bottom end or stuff like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Leary89

will do but was onto fella today and was told engine code is really only a guide that my car would be suitable with passat or jetta engine so alls not lost

Have you worked out any other engines that can be fitted.
5 mins on Google and I got a list of 1.4 vw engine codes that are 'compatible'.
I don't know if these are direct fit compatible but at a minimum id imagine stripped to bare bones, they would be the same or worst case, the engine block would be the same.
    Some codes

    BMY
    BLG
    Cava
    cavf
    Bwk
    Cdga

It's worth looking further into how compatible these actually are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Leary89

Yes my code is bmy and can't be sourced anywhere I'm told but in all fairness even VW can't find one .I was told by guy in Cavan there only a guide the codes and work can be done but I need two Pistons aswell

My point is that one of the other codes could be found and at worst, if the entire engine couldn't be swapped in, you would surely be able to use the engine block complete with pistons etc.

To possibly answer your question of how and why with so little mileage, if those engines are not looked after the chain can stretch and I imagine ultimately cause the damage you're seeing. The car should have giving you a good amount of warning before getting to this stage thou.

My thinking exactly surely main dealers would have same logic but you never know there always looking for dearest option

Feck just read yours you had a lot problems with model aswell .Who sorted yours in the end.My car had 64 k on and initially we thought it was a coil problem in bank one so that was replaced but then same issue so mechanic said problem another coil.It got a bit stupid tbh so I brought it to main dealer who discovered cylinder and piston damage .

Just an update on the engine it's being seven weeks and still no joy with sourcing one.VW cork have no idea when they will get one or if they do .Iv done my own searching to no avail as engine code is very hard to come by.Nearly all dismantlers haven't had one in a long time and was also quoted nearly 1300 for one if it comes in.Iv tried partfinder uk and got two quotes of nearly 2k sterling plus shipping. Its ridiculous VW stopped manufacturing these parts for this model and got the fright of my life few days ago VW in cork said if I pay 6 thousand euro I can have brand new engine for it!! Can you imagine 6k for 07 golf .....If someone can help it would be great as I'm running out of ideas on what to do with the car do I scrap it and move on from such a beautiful car or just wait.

Taking a look on a Polish website I use to get all my car related items there are 2 BMY engines going:

    http://allegro.pl/vw-golf-jetta-touran-silnik-1-4-tsi-bmy-i6536718379.html

    http://allegro.pl/silnik-bmy-1-4tsi-vw-golf-jetta-touran-gwarancja-i6472909640.html

    2 issues.
    1) you will need to find a Pole to call and arrange it
    2) they may not deliver abroad.

    Euro wise it's about 1500e

1500 for an engine... plus delivery costs, plus labor for fitting....
As the car is worth around 5k in full running order... I would be strongly considering selling it as is... and buying something else.... Sometimes u have to cut the losses....
if I had comp.. i be checking policy to see if they cover engine damage...

Just quoting this as it's most likely the best route to go down if the bmy is so hard to come by.
What you're probably going to have to get done is use the complete bottom end of another compatible engine with the original head of your own engine provided it isn't damaged.

The tdi boys have been at this for years fitting the older stronger bkc bottom ends in place of fooked bxe tdi's

Delivery from Poland is not that expensive... The demand is massive and there are numerous courier companies doing deliveries - the competition drives price down. Parcels from/to Poland can be cheaper than within Ireland ;-)

Motorbike is €220, transport of the short block with the head should cost in region of €50-€80 euro with those lads: http://www.polskapaczka.pl

Was told by VW the only one would be BMY engine block it's a rare type supposedly I'm being told but il look into it aswell thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

Would it not be worth trying to replace it with completely a different engine considering how problematic and hard to source this BMY is? Not sure how feasible that would be in a modern car, I'd assume it would mean swapping out the ECU and a lot of other things. Wouldn't bother asking the VW dealer about this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 Leary89

Iv asked many a mechanic same question can different block from other neighbor code go ion but all returning with same answer .Its got to be BMY engine complete as il have problems with chain stretching and probably would my last to long with the horsepower she gives aswell.Vw just rang and good news there might be able to source one from U.K. Next week from 2010 with 60 k on it .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

I was talking about replacing the entire engine (and ancillaries were required) with something else, not just the block. There are other Golfs with different engines. Maybe it's a viable option? I don't know.

Your old engine died at 64k.Are you going down the same road again in 4k with the new motor?

I'm not to sure myself tbh but when cork engines are turning down the work as they can't source parts I know I'm in trouble and VW stated they will stand over engine for 9 months so I have some come back from it .At this stage im desperate
