Need to rename the bus lane to restricted lane or priority lane.

It's not just a bus lane, taxis and cyclists also use bus lanes. Just because Dublin bus are on strike doesn't mean Bus Éireann, Wexford Bus, JJ Kavanaghs etc etc are not still using the bus lane.

People looking for the bus lane to be opened to private cars are not thinking it out. It's a silly suggestion the only thing worse is the powers that be are not telling them the actual reasons not to open them.

It's not a training issue, it's because they are not buses or taxis or cyclists or emergency vehicles.

How about my car is better than yours lane?

Hmmm the bus lane, for taxis and buses.. how about Irish drivers learn how to use the fast lane.
Like when a driver behind you in the 'fast lane ' flashes you, it's not cos he's a fcuking maniac. It's cos it's the advanced driver signal for. 'I'm going faster than you , get out of the lane '
And indicating on roundabouts .. FCUK OFF
my family would be less stressed if other road users would learn the fing'book ...
    I love driving .. :)

Can we start with indicator training first

The bus lane, unless it's a 24hr one is the lane you should be driving in outside bus lane hours because it's the left hand, aka driving, lane.

Stopping people from driving out of the test centre when they FAILED their test would be a start.

How would they get enough practice before the next test? It's perfectly legal for them to drive so long as they have a qualified driver with them.

Exactly, there is no such thing as 'fast' or 'slow' lanes, just driving lanes (the leftmost) and overtaking lanes.

So you drive in the left lane, overtake and go back in. That's the idea. You do not sit in the 'fast' lane with an empty lane beside you because you feel you're going fast.

Also, my biggest gripe, people on 3 lane M50 and M7 just driving in the middle lane.
Just get over to the left.

It's so dangerous as it leads to undertaking and also forces good drivers to switch two lanes to overtake them.

I think Irish motorists need training in Motoring, the level of shíte driving in this country is outstanding, we deserve medals for shíteness

God help them on 4/5/6 laned UK motorways with variable speed limits. Found them so much more pleasurable my self, and less stressful compared to a 2 laned Irish M4 and 3 laned M50.

Not as bad as idiots who drive in the 'fast' lane who are taking the next exit and 50m before the exit decide to cross 2 or 3 lanes to exit

It's f*ing simple lads, if you're taking the next exit get in the left lane(which you should be in already) with ample time.

A friend failed her driving test in London because she didn't use the out of hours bus lane - exactly what the tester said to her "we drive on the left"

I dont think people in Cork (could be other places too) understand that most of the bus lanes are not 24 hours. Traffic was moving very slowly the other day in the "normal" lane so I drove into the bus lane. Was outside of the hours of operation. Got beeped at twice! Brought this up at work and not one person realised that they can actually drive in bus lanes. I had to show them the bus lane hours of operation sign on Google Maps so they would believe me.

    Ssshh ! ;)

I'v been using them years here and always get the same response from motorists. Cork drivers are a peculiar breed.

Nonsense. Everyone knows the one on McCurtain Street is for parking.

I've never seen anyone refer to this. Do you have a link to, ideally the Act dealing with this, or your third party source such as a ROTR handbook?

If the "bus" lane is out of service, it becomes a normal lane and the usual rules of driving on e the left are in force.
The right lane then becomes the overtaking lane.

Having said that I have been "blown out of it " several time for driving in the "bus" lane out of hours.

Again I've never heard tell of this. AFAIK the bus lane remains the bus lane it's just that it can be used. I'd need to see the Acts surrounding bus lanes and I'm not sure I care that much to go hunting! :pac:

I had to explain to a foreign lad on Friday that we cant use Bus lanes if there is a strike on.

He literally could not get his head around it. I gave up and just shouted at him to not use bus lanes ever.

Well just out of habit I call it the fast lane, the overtaking lane on the right of the slower lane, where people can drive at faster speeds (100/120kms per hour) than someone who wishes to drive in the left lane at say 80/60/20 kms per hour.

    I despair I really do.

Just because someone is doing 120KPH does not mean they should be doing anything other than keeping left. Fine when they need to overtake do so, but then move back in.

They are never used. Drive through Dublin at night and the bus lanes will remain empty except for taxis and a few drivers who realise they're allowed to drive in it.

When I do this, I get beeped and flashed at by bus drivers..they haven't a clue. I had one bus driver tailgate me, with his full beams on to get me out of "his" lane despite it being outside of bus lane hours, it was so dangerous. This happens regularly so I actually don't go in the bus lanes anymore !

He just wanted you to speed up and get out of the way.

If a 15 ton box powered by an engine that would barely run a lawnmower is tailgating you regularly then you are driving too slowly.

So it's too dangerous to use them during the strike but it's fine at weekends and other designated times.....good job I drive mainly at weekends, wouldn't want to put myself in danger!

I'm also going to sign up for some "special taxi training" to learn how to weave in and out of traffic.
Leo is being a bit of a pillock on this.

The problem with this though is that a huge amount of bus lanes are used for parking out of hours (which is perfectly legal of course) meaning that the left-most lane very often isn't clear to drive in.

Twice in the last two weeks I've had drivers pull over halfway into the inbound bus lane western rd cork ! Trying to take the law into their own hands yet not realising their own stupidity. Its funny considering there is 4 signs with the bus lane hours clearly visible between the AIB and mardyke pedestrian xing.

The woman tonight was downright crazy. She almost lost control of her own car she was so furious. Some idiots on our roads.
