You do have the the rj11 telephone lead plugged from the white master socket into the port marked dsl on the modem
looking at rear of the modem the port nearest to the power jack
Do you get dial tone from a phone plugged into the master socket port marked phone

Did you try to reset the the modem with a pin using the reset button on the rear of the modem

What lights are on on the modem ?

They may have broadband only so not necessarily have a dial tone.

OP, the port on the left on the master socket is the broadband port, the modem will not work in the port on the right or on any other socket in the house (the exception to this would be a specifically ran data port extension provided on install)

Sorry I should have updated last night, the initial error was showing that the line wasn't plugged in properly, it was though, was onto tech support, they said the replacement was faulty and a new one is to be sent out.
After the call, I set it up again, this time without an Ethernet cable connected, after a minute or 2 the dsl locked and all is good in the world today.

The moral compass needs to be checked to see if I keep the replacement router now.

So if anyone comes across this in future with the same problem, it's plug and play as far as I can see, I just need to be a bit more patient
