A Solicitor is the best person that I can think of that will be able to give you a qualified view

I think he would like to take sole ownership of the lane and make it a private lane

Do you have your folio, this should state any right of ways on your property

Land direct only shows registered rights of ways, if this land has a registered right of way it will appear in yellow. However many rights of ways are not registered. Our folios don't show rights of way, even though some do exist. You really should consult a solicitor

if the right of way isn't registered then its not the landowners problem

We have both those things done. The maps bought, the solicitor visited. The maps are all in our favour.

Someone is trying to use it as a parking area.Even though they have two double gates in they still insist on using my farm gate

I meant to say two double gates into their house (and .75 acre site)

You should probably ask the mods to close this thread at this stage id your problem is under court action. A local historian from your own area would be more use to you than almost any guy in longford.

High time the whole rights of way issue was sorted out and made public instead of this cloak and dagger lark. Alas the political will is not there. No solicitor will want the issue touched either as it is a source of easy money for them.

Which bit do you want publicized? If it's easy money for solicitors there should be endless amounts of case law for you to consult to help you establish where you stand in any situation.

My point was land direct may not be of any help as not all right of ways are shown on it.

I think you can zoom in to your part of the country and change date on maps back to the 1840s and 90s that could show up any old building or monument that used to be there.
Go to menu base information and mapping scroll down and tick box of year maps you want to look at.

PM sent to OP but we will leave it run for now, it might help someone else in same situation.

    That's a great resource.

It's also confirmed what I feared. A right of way, existing in previous maps, seems to have been extinguished in my home town (Buttevant).

There used to be a right of way past a solicitor's house to a historical church (one of the two churches forming the first steeple chase). He didn't like people walking past his house, and bricked up one of the entrances into the church approx 20 years ago. The COI was being used at least monthly at one stage, but possibly no longer used.

Now looks like all entrances are blocked. Very sad really.
