Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Drink driving offence and joining gardai

    Would a previous drink driving offence prevent me from being allowed to join gardai? i got 6months ban and 400euro fine it was a fixed penalty so no court apperance. was considering applying

    I don't think it will bar you from joining. It's not a criminal conviction as such and was dealt with by way of a fixed charge notice so didn't involve court or anything.
    It probably won't help either to be honest but still.
    make sure you declare it though as they will run your name through the system and it will show up and if you havent declared it you'll be gone.

    I am in the same boat. I also had a public order offence. Both over 7 years ago. I applied in January this year and have passed both tests and the interview and recently met with my local station. I should know very soon if my vetting has been cleared. If I get through you will definitely get through. I'll let you know.

    Heya.. Just wondering what either of your outcomes were, as I have a fixed charge penalty notice from 8years ago.. no charges or convictions just that.. also blew under the limit recently enough at the station as my license wasn’t on me at the time so nothing came of it..
    Simply blew zero at the station. Had wine poured over a meal at a restaurant I just visited could not believe it but all was ok. PM if needs be, thanks a million
